February Birchbox Unboxing

P1020254

Hi guys! Today’s post is a bittersweet one as it will be my last Birchbox unboxing post. Birchbox announced last week that they were stopping service to Canada and that my subscription would be cancelled after the February box. Needless to say, I’m incredibly disappointed. They have indicated that it is due to increased shipping costs and the exchange rate. I’ve really enjoyed Birchbox and am sad that I only had it for a short time. I did however subscribe to Ipsy because I enjoy getting a monthly beauty subscription. Hopefully I’ll receive my first beauty bag in March and hopefully they don’t follow suit and end services to Canada too.

For my February box (because I didn’t know at the time it would be my last) I opted in for the Date Night themed box as the items sounded like I would enjoy them all. So no surprises for me this month!

Here is what I got in my February box:

P1020256

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics | Lip Tar in Strumpet

This is a liquid lipstick in a very pretty and opaque berry shade. This is pretty much what sold me on this themed box. I’ve wanted to try the OCC Lip Tars and the berry shade is so pretty! Apparently just a drop is all I need to use.

Whish | Renewing Mud Mask

This mask is said to renew and exfoliate the skin. I enjoy a good mud mask so I’m excited to try it out!

Cynthia Rowley Beauty | Brightening Illuminator

This is a liquid highlight that is said to work for all skin tones and deliver a subtle sheen. I’ve never used a liquid highlight so I am definitely curious about it. I am oily though so I’m not sure if it will work out since I set everything with a powder. It can also be mixed into your foundation or moisturizer.

Catherine Malandrino | Romance de Provence

I can tell you right now that I’m not going to like this scent as it has patchouli in it, but it’s a small price to pay for the beautiful berry liquid lipstick in the box! This perfume is described as having fruity and floral nuances with vanilla, which sounds great, but then they lose me with patchouli.

amika | Bombshell Blowout Spray

This is a spray that volumizes, smoothes and protects your hair for a “sleek yet bouncy ‘do”. I’ve received quite a few sprays lately in my birchboxes and I’ve enjoyed them so I’m looking forward to trying this one too.

L to R: Catherine Rowley Brightening Illuminator and OCC Lip Tar in Strumpet

Well, that is everything that I received in the February Date Night Themed Birchbox. I’m sad to see Birchbox go and I do hope they consider resuming service to Canada if the postage and exchange rate situation change. Until then, I look forward to trying out Ipsy!

What did you receive in your Birchbox this month? Let me know in the comments down below!

xoxo,

Robyn

  1. It’s too bad they are cancelling Birchbox in Canada. It looked like they had decent items! I’m looking forward to your ipsy posts. I had a subscription to ipsy for a few months but ended up cancelling. I’m curious to the types of products they are giving out these days! xo

  2. Boo, that sucks they made the decision to stop service to Canada. I find it so frustrating that we’re treated so differently than the US, we’re right next door! You know what’s ridiculous? I shipped a bunch of parcels (the prizes for my giveaway) and it costs MORE to ship within Canada than to the US! 😮
I think Ipsy bags in general are pretty good – I see lots of makeup in those bags. I hope you’ll like yours!

    • I couldn’t agree more! It frustrates me too!

Yeah shipping within Canada is so expensive and to top it off our postal service is even slower! So confusing. Canada Posts frustrates me in a new way almost every week lol…

I’m really hoping I like Ipsy but I will definitely miss Birchbox a lot!
