February Book Club

Hi guys! It’s time for another Book Club Post! If you missed the first one, basically what I am trying to do is read a minimum of two books a month. I used to be an avid reader but at some point became too busy for one of my favourite hobbies so this is me trying to get back into it. At the end of each month I’ll give you a bit of information about what I have read this month. If you want to join in you can do so by either posting in the comments or you can post on your own blog. I’m definitely open to having this become a collaboration if you want to join in! If anyone wants to participate next month let me know and we can link to each other!

With that said, this is what I have read this month!

Big Magic: Creatively Living Beyond Fear By Elizabeth Gilbert

big magic

When I see a new book by Elizabeth Gilbert I usually pick it up. This one was particularly intriguing as it is about her creative process and how she views creativity in general. As someone who loves writing and other creative pursuits I found it quite inspiring. It was interesting learning more about how she wrote some of her books and how she viewed getting into writing as a career. Definitely worth a read overall!

I picked up this book on a whim while at Coles a few weeks ago. I haven’t read anything by Jennifer Robson before but something drew me to this book. Perhaps the purple cover? Anyways, this is a novel about a young woman named Helena who lives a sheltered life in London with her aristocratic family. After having a bad year with a broken wartime engagement and surviving a serious illness she decides to move to Paris to live with her aunt who is much more free spirited than the rest of her family and pursue her dreams of being an artist. For one year she will get to be herself, without her family’s title. I loved this book! The author really paints a vivid picture of what it was like to be a woman in 1924.
