Love for Lipstick: NARS vs. Bite Beauty

Hi guys! As you may already know, I started up my new Love for Lipstick Series. In case you missed it, you can find the my “round one” haul here! So today I wanted to do a comparison post and take a look at two of the matte lip pencils that I hauled. The NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil and the Bite Beauty Matte Crème Lip Crayon. I thought this was a good place to start as they are both high end matte lip pencils. So for this post you’re going to go on a journey with me through two normal work days and we will see how each product held up! Neither product was touched up at all throughout the day.

NARS Velvet Lip Pencil in Damned

1. 8:00 am – Freshly applied 2. 12:00 pm – 4 hours of wear (ate breakfast with it on) 3. 12:45 pm after eating lunch 4. 5:00 pm – 9 hours of wear

The NARS Velvet Lip Pencil applied evenly and dried down completely matte. It was comfortable to wear and had some transfer throughout the day. As it wore off it did leave behind a nice stain but was a bit patchy at some points of the day. Although, if you weren’t looking for it, or you weren’t taking a close up picture like I was, you wouldn’t likely notice. It amazingly lasted through my morning tea and breakfast. Later on I was able to rub my lips together and salvage the lipstick after the salad I had at lunch wrecked havoc on it.

Bite Beauty Crème Lip Crayon in Framboise

1. 8:00 am – Freshly applied 2. 12:00 pm –  4 hours of wear (ate breakfast with it on) 3. 12:45 pm after eating lunch 4. 5:00 pm – 9 hours of wear

The Bite Beauty Crème Lip Crayon also dried completely matte. It was very comfortable to wear and seemed slightly more moisturizing than the NARS Velvet Lip Pencil. It too survived my morning tea and breakfast. Lunch took a toll on it as well, but again, if you weren’t as close as my camera was, you wouldn’t notice. As it faded it left a nice stain on the lips and I found it didn’t look patchy at all. The formula has a lemony scent which I quite enjoy.

I found these products to be quite similar in quality and wear-time. They are quite different formula-wise but it is really quite tough to say which is better. I think overall I prefer the Bite Beauty formula as it was a bit more hydrating, smells wonderful, faded a bit nicer and I love that it twists up. No fussing with a sharpener and wasting valuable product. The Bite Beauty Crème Lip Crayon is also a bit more inexpensive which is a bonus! You do get a bit more product with the NARS Velvet Lip Pencil (0.086 oz vs. 0.05 oz) but again, you’re wasting product with a sharpener.

What is your favourite matte lip pencil? Let me know in the comments below!

xoxo,

Robyn
