4 Eye Makeup Essentials

Eye Makeup Essentials.jpeg

Hi guys! I don’t know about you, but doing my eye makeup is my favourite part of my makeup routine. I love how many vastly different looks you can achieve. It’s the one part of my makeup routine where I can think outside the box and come up with something I haven’t tried before. So, with that said, I thought it would be fun to round-up some of my “can’t live without them” items that are always part of my eye makeup routine.

Eye Shadow Primer

Everyone has different preferences for eye shadow primer (we are all different, after all!) but my personal favourite is the Urban Decay Eye Shadow Primer. Experiment and find one that works for you and once you do, you will see a world of difference! A good eye shadow primer should allow your eye makeup to look flawless all day. My eye makeup (unless I was rubbing my eyes, it happens!) always looks the same when I go to take it off before bed. No fading, no creasing, no disappearing eyeshadow! I always take a second to set my primer with a light eye shadow to make blending easier.

Good Eye Shadow Brushes

You’ve got the eye shadow, your lid is primed, and you’re ready to start applying it… Good brushes make such a huge difference. They don’t even need to be pricy,  quality doesn’t have to break the bank. My essentials are a blending brush (or two), a shader brush and a pencil brush. I love Morphe Brushes because they are great quality and super affordable. I really enjoy their Morphe M433 and M441. Sigma Beauty is also has great, affordable brushes. I use the E40 which is a blending brush every single day and I love their E30 which is the pencil brush that I use. My favourite shader brush is the MAC 242 which is quite pricy, but I love it! You could probably find a less expensive alternative though from Morphe or Sigma. The Real Techniques Eye Starter Set is also great if you are just starting out and you want to get a set of really great brushes! They were my eye makeup training wheels, but I still do use them!

Eyeliner That Stays Put

Eyeliner, especially for your waterline, is a very personal thing just like finding a good eye shadow primer that works for you. Everyone seems to have a different opinion on which eyeliners last in the waterline. I personally really like the Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliners. They come in a variety of colours, and I find they last a reasonable time. I do also want to try the new Colourpop eyeliners though, I’ve heard great things and they are so much more affordable!

A Mascara That Does Everything You Want… and More!

I go back and forth on which mascaras I use. I think at the end of the day, what I’m looking for is longer, more voluminous lashes. I personally, end up using two different ones to achieve this. Much easier than fussing with false lashes! Right now I’m loving starting off with the L’Oreal Telescopic Carbon Black mascara (1 coat) and then adding Maybelline Lash Sensational on top (1 to 2 coats). If you can find one mascara that gives you what you want, all the better! I find a good mascara really pulls together any eye look. It’s like the icing on top of the cake! Even some of my favourite eye looks that I’ve done look messy and off until I add my mascara and then suddenly it looks great! It’s magic.

I hope you found this informative! It really all does come down to personal preference, but I thought it would be fun to break down the essentials in my routine, and share some of the products that work for me!

What are some of your eye makeup essentials?

Robyn

  1. I think about my eye makeup as BP (before primer) and AP (after primer). Honestly, what did I do before I discovered eye primer?!! Now I see women with horribly creased eye shadows and I want to pass them a tube of primer. 😛
I would add that in addition to a primer, I like cream eye shadows as a base. They add a lot of depth to powder eye shadows. My go to is MAC Paint Pot in Groundwork.

    • Aw thanks! Yes the UD eyeliners are fantastic! My go-to shade, Demolition (matte brown) is almost a stub! The Maybelline Lash Sensational is great! I can’t believe how well it performs. My only issue with it is that it’s a pain to remove, but I don’t think it’s waterproof. It’s not impossible, just more difficult than your normal mascara.

      • Oh that’s kind of a pain..you can’t win. If they’re easy to remove they tend to flake/smudge and vice versa. It’s 2016 why can’t they figure out how to make a mascara that doesn’t budge but is easy to remove? Mind blowing. 😉
