Hi guys! As I mentioned on Saturday, I received a VoxBox from Influenster full of Maybelline goodies. Today I want to share my review of the Better Skin Foundation and Concealer. These are part of their Super Stay line and are meant to be skin transforming. Unfortunately the shade of foundation I received is a bit too dark for me to wear everyday so I can’t test those claims, but I can chat about how it applied and wore on my skin.
The word I normally use to describe my skin is oily. Unless I’m using mattifying products, my foundation will get shiny fast. That is exactly what happened when I used this foundation. I did set my face with Maybelline Matte + Poreless Translucent Powder but it did still get shiny after a few hours. Surprisingly though, I don’t dislike how it turned out, it looks a bit dewy which is not usually a look I end up with. My foundation usually goes from matte to greaseball status but this is a nice in-between. I think it would be nice for summer, although I’m not sure how it would react to warmer temperatures, it’s been pretty chilly here this weekend.

L to R: Foundation and Concealer

L to R: Foundation and Concealer (blended)
Both applied nicely with a damp Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge and I didn’t need to use much to achieve medium coverage. If I wasn’t worried about how it doesn’t match my skin I would have tried using a brush as well. Luckily the concealer is lighter than the foundation so I was able to tone down the foundation by applying the concealer as a highlight strategically on my face. The concealer didn’t crease at all, but I always set everything with a powder so I don’t give it much of a chance to start to crease.
As for wear-time, both times I wore it my oily skin didn’t cause it to break down at all so although I got shiny, it didn’t go anywhere. I have both on right now and it’s been 6 hours and still appears to be in place.
Before I go, I just want to quickly compare these two to my normal foundation and concealer. I’ve swatched them all directly above this paragraph. As you can see, the foundation is drastically darker than my normal foundation. The concealer is a better match to my skin and I actually have used this one in the past, but I like how the Urban Decay one is lighter so it highlights my face more. I also prefer the formula of the Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer in general, it is my absolute holy grail concealer. For me, it’s totally worth the hype. But, I’ll keep the Better Skin concealer around as a back up because it does the trick and I have a feeling I’m running low on my beloved holy grail.
So, the bottom line is both of these products were enjoyable. I do generally prefer a matte foundation, but I may buy the lighter shade of the foundation to see how it works for a summer foundation. If I do that, I’ll post an update. The concealer also works well, but I would prefer if it was a bit lighter, but this is the lightest shade in the range. If you would like to see how these two products look on my face, I wore them in my last MOTD post which you can find here!
What is your favourite foundation and concealer? Let me know in the comments down below! I don’t think I’ll be changing up my concealer any time soon, but I do want to try other foundations.
xoxo,
Robyn

I got this foundation and I really like it too. I originally got the shade 20 Classic Ivory but then I was worried it’d be too light so I exchanged it for 25 Nude Beige… but that is too dark. I probably should have stuck with 20 Classic Beige! But wow, 15 Ivory is SO dark! Geez. I do really like the light coverage and I was glad it wasn’t matte… I don’t like matte foundations! 😛 I heard that the concealer doesn’t set at all and has a tacky finish so I’ve been avoiding it. I do love Maybelline concealers in general so I will likely try it eventually. My HG concealer is the Maybelline Age Rewind Eraser!

I’m wearing the concealer again and it has dried down and doesn’t feel tacky at all but I always immediately set it with a powder. I’m glad this one is lighter than the other Maybelline concealers I have tried. Any other one I have purchased even in the lightest shade is to dark/warm for my skin, major bummer because the actual formulas have been great!
I was surprised I liked the foundation because of my “must be matte” requirement, if I don’t go matte I end up looking like a shiny mess, haha! It’s been cold here so I’ll have to test this one again on a hot day!

Same here! Thankfully it didn’t stay but it was soooo cold and windy. I’m done with this cold weather. Soooo done.

Wow that’s a super dark version of an Ivory shade! Disappointing that it wasn’t a match for you.
My favourite drugstore foundation is CoverGirls’ Outlast 5-in-1 Foundation. I have combo skin and it works wonders on me! Might be worth a try! 😉

Yeah I can’t believe how dark it was! Funny enough the lighter shade looked darker in the survey Influenster sent me. But I find in general Maybelline is a few shades darker than other brands. I’ll have to check out that CoverGirl foundation! Thanks for the suggestion!

Interesting, I actually don’t think I’ve ever tried of Maybelline’s foundations. I keep meaning to try their FitMe foundation as I’ve heard it’s supposed to be good.

I actually do like that one! Almost forgot about it… I like the FitMe Matte + Poreless but for matte foundations I prefer the L’Oréal Pro-Matte for controlling my oil. I haven’t used the original FitMe in awhile but I don’t recall disliking it.

I feel your pain, even after accutane my skin is still fairly oily. This is a major problem of mine when choosing foundations! I’ve been using Rimmel Stay Matte foundation for about two years now and works great for oily skin!!

Ooh I’ll have to try that one out! I’ve hear good things about their matte powder so I’m not surprised the foundation is great too!
