June Book Club

Hi guys! June was another decent reading month, I met my goal of reading two books. I think in July I’ll surpass my goal as I usually spend my weekends at the cottage reading up a storm, but we’ll see! This month I read two books that I absolutely loved and both are by Canadian writers!

Room by Emma Donoghue

Room

I had wanted to read this for awhile and I promised myself that I would read it before watching the movie so this was high on my list of books to read (still haven’t watched the movie yet). I loved this book! It’s told from the perspective of five-year-old Jack whose entire world is one room. To him it’s the comforting place that he was born, but to his mother, it is the place she has been held captive for the past seven years. It’s a very powerful and emotional story that demonstrates the bond of a mother and her son who she would do anything to keep safe. I can’t recommend this book enough if you haven’t already read it!

I, Bificus by Bif Naked

I, Bificus

I am and always have been a huge fan of Bif Naked. When I heard she wrote a book, I was so excited to get my hands on it. If you are a fan of her I think you will really enjoy this book. The whole time I read it I could hear a soundtrack of her music playing through my mind. There are so many parts that you can tell she drew from when writing her music and I found that fascinating. She is a truly remarkable woman who has been through so much and truly, in so many ways, is a survivor. Reading this totally renewed the admiration I have for her.

So, that is what I have read this month! I would love to know if you have read great anything lately so please feel free to leave a comment down below! If you would like to participate in June’s Book Club let me know and we can link each other. Please contact me at lipstick.on.the.lake@gmail.com if you are interested.

  1. Hmmm I’ve never heard of The Room before – it sounds really interesting! I’ll have to add that one to my list.

Also I haven’t seen Bif Naked for a while, but wow that cover photo doesn’t look anything like what I remember her to be! 🙂

  2. Room is hands down my all time favourite book! The film in my opinion doesn’t do it justice!
Highly recommend to anyone who hasn’t seen it.
