A Week of the Kat Von D MetalMatte Palette

Kat Von D MetalMatte Palette

Hi guys! It’s been awhile since I’ve shown you a week’s worth of looks from a palette so today I have a week of the Kat Von D MetalMatte Palette for you! I recently got this palette and as soon as I opened it for the very first time, fell in love.

Kat Von D is also coincidentally the Canadian Beauty Bloggers Brand of the Month for October so it’s even more fitting that I’m talking about this palette now. I’ll have the link-up to the other Canadian Beauty Blogger’s posts at the end of this post!

Review & Swatches

Kat Von D MetalMatte Palette

The MetalMatte Palette is a limited edition palette comprised of 9 of her Metal Crush formula eye shadows and 13 corresponding matte shades. It has an large range of shades making for excellent versatility. I’ll be showing you just how versatile this palette is when you get to the looks I’ve included in the post. I think with this palette you are really only limited by your imagination!

As for formula, the matte shades are the typical Kat Von D formula that I’ve known and loved for quite some time now. They are pigmented but blend like a dream! They do have a bit of kickoff, but that has never been a deal breaker for me. The Metal Crush formula is super pigmented, almost creamy in texture and applies beautifully. The shades truly are metallic. They remind me a bit of the Makeup Geek Foiled Eyeshadows. Two thumbs way up from this girl!

Finally, let’s talk packaging! This is a pretty long palette, so don’t expect to be taking this on vacation. It is by far the longest palette I’ve seen measuring at 11.5 inches. I really don’t mind big palettes though, but just keep this in mind if you are someone who prefers smaller palettes. I’m blown away by the writing on the palette. If you look at it one way it says “Metal” and if you turn it the other way it says “Matte”. Kat Von D always has amazing artwork on her packaging so I can’t say I’m surprised.

A Week of the MetalMatte Palette

Look 1:

Transition: Suede
Crease: Oak
Lid: Volt
Outer-V: Velvet
Under-Eye: Volt & Velvet
Blush: Urban Decay Afterglow Blush in Rapture
Highlight: Laura Geller Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator in Charming Pink
Lip: Colourpop Ultra Satin Liquid Lipstick in Femme

Of course the first look I had to do with this palette was purple but can you blame me? I live for the colour purple! I created a smoky and dark eye and paired it with Femme by Colourpop. I love, love, love this combination. I will definitely be recreating this look! I felt so edgy wearing this makeup look.

Look 2:

Transition: Suede
Crease: Fringe
Lid: Glitz
Outer-V: Synergy
Under-Eye: Nebula
Blush: Becca x Jaclyn Hill Amaretto
Highlight: Becca x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Pop
Lip: Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lolita

For this look I wanted to go neutral with just a pop of blue. I was wearing this look with a blue shirt to an engagement party so I wanted something classy with a touch of fun! This look could easily be done with a pop of a different colour, or a matching under eye.

Look #3

Transition: Suede
Crease: Oak & Moss
Lid: Watt
Outer-V: Moss & Jet
Under-Eye: Moss & Watt
Blush: Becca Snapdragon
Highlight: Becca Pearl
Lip: Colourpop Ultra Satin Liquid Lipstick in Baracuda

For this look I wanted to use the green shades in the palette but add in some of the brown shades. My inspiration was a forrest of evergreens. I added some drama with some false lashes; I chose some Baby Wispies by Ardell. I’m still pretty new to false lashes so their is room for improvement, but I’m happy with how this look turned out! The greens in the MetalMatte Palette are just to die for!

Look #4:

Transition: Suede
Crease: Oak
Lid: Synergy
Outer-V: Oak
Under-Eye: Synergy with Oak blended into it
Blush: Becca Blushed Copper
Highlight: Becca x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Pop topped with Becca Pearl
Lip: MAC Studded Kiss

For this look I was going for a very coppery-autumny vibe. This look was for a Thanksgiving dinner so I was drawn into the warmer shades. One thing I feel that this palette is missing is a more orangey shade. But, I’m happy with how this turned out! The shade Synergy practically melted onto my lid, it was so easy to apply.

Look #5:

Transition: Suede
Crease: Stone
Lid: Tinsel
Outer-V: Stone & Jet
Under-Eye: Stone & Jet
Blush: Urban Decay Afterglow Blush in Rapture
Highlight: Anastasia Beverly Hills Crushed Pearl
Lip: Colourpop Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick in Lumiere 2

For this look I wanted to centre it around the shade Tinsel and do something a bit smoky with some sparkle. Tinsel is definitely a glittery shade, so just be aware of that. I didn’t find there was much fallout though so it did apply well! I felt like Lumiere 2 was the perfect companion for this look! I’ve been obsessing over Lumiere 2 ever since I got it!

Look #6

Transition: Fringe
Crease: Silk & Ribbon
Lid: Twinkle
Under-Eye: Ribbon
Blush: Too Faced Sweethearts Perfect Flush Blush in Candy Glow
Highlight: Anastasia Beverly Hills Crushed Pearl & Starburst mixed
Lip: Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Turn On

This look was inspired by whimsicalness and fairies. That’s what popped into my head when I saw the shade twinkle which is what I wanted to centre this look around. I was also kind of going for a blended/soft cut crease.

Look #7

Transition: Fringe
Crease: Velour
Lid: Ignite
Under-Eye: Velour
Blush: Urban Decay Afterglow Blush in Fetish
Highlight: Becca Pearl
Lip: Essence Lip Liner in In the Nude & Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Native

The lighting was straight-up annoying when I was trying to photograph this look. The light was either non-existant, or completely blinding. Explain that one to me! UGH!!!! I did my best, but I apologize for the super inconsistent lighting, I tried! Anyways, I don’t really wear blue eye shadow so this look was a bit out of my comfort zone. I knew I wanted to do a blue look but I didn’t want anything dramatic as it was a work day so I went simple with my eye look and paired it with a nude lip! While I did like this look more than I thought I would, I’m not sure if I would wear it again.

So that is my week of the Kat Von D MetalMatte Palette! Seven days later and I’m not sick of it at all, I’m already creating new looks with it in my head and you can bet I’ll be wearing this again tomorrow.

  1. My favourites are the smokey ones! They look amazing for Fall. #1, #3 and #4! ❤
It's a lovely palette but I know I have dupes of those colours in my collection already! I am getting inspiration from you on the looks though. 🙂

  2. Gorgeous! Great idea to showcase a number of looks with the same palette. I think my favourite is #4.
This palette is so appealing because of the good mix of shimmer/mattes, but I just know in reality that I wouldn’t touch some of the crazier colours. You’ve done a good job making use of all the available shades, though!

    • Haha sorry! It is stunning and the VIB sale is definitely a good time to pick up a massive palette like this to safe a few dollars 😁
