Hi guys! I was thinking about doing an update to my holy grail post that I wrote last year. Instead, I thought it would be fun to do Jaclyn Hill’s Ride or Die Makeup Tag which is essentially the same thing! So in this post you will find all of my go-to items for each makeup category, these are the products I can’t live without.
PRIMER
If you read my post about essential drugstore makeup items this week, you probably already know the answer to this. My ride or die primer is the Nivea After Shave Balm (Sensitive). Nothing else makes my makeup last so long. Note, it does not control my oil though.
FOUNDATION
Another repeat from my essential drugstore post… so far the drugstore is winning this tag! While I enjoy a few other foundations, the L’Oreal Pro-Matte is my ride or die. I always go back to it because it works so well for me.
CONCEALER
Straying from the drugstore… The Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer is definitely ride or die status for me. Personally, I find it is a great formula to work with. It’s pigmented, it has a great, blendable consistency and it is the perfect shade for me. I never have luck finding a concealer in the right shade and Fair Neutral is perfection.
FACE POWDER
Face powders are essential for helping me stay matte and I’ve mentioned this powder thousands of time here on the blog… The Maybelline FitMe Matte + Poreless Translucent Powder is definitely my go-to.
UNDER EYE SETTING POWDER
I normally use the same powder on my face as I do for setting my under eye, but occasionally I’ll use the Laura Mercier Loose Translucent Powder on my under eye area if I really want to make sure my makeup lasts all day.
BLUSH
You can hardly tell by looking at it, but Urban Decay’s Afterglow Blush in Fetish is my ride or die. If I don’t know which blush I want to wear, this is what I will put on. It’s a beautiful long-lasting formula, and the shade is beautiful!
BRONZER
Honestly, I don’t really wear bronzer so I haven’t found one yet that would be ride or die status. There’s a few I enjoy but I don’t feel that passionate about them.
HIGHLIGHT
Oooh this is hard, there’s a few highlighters in my collection that I’m in love with… But, the one I wear the most is The Balm’s Mary-Lou Manizer. I just love that pale white gold shade, it works so well for me.
MASCARA
This is another tough one… in my Holy Grail post, I talked about Too Faced’s Better than Sex Mascara. While I do still love it, I haven’t gotten around to re-purchasing it as I’ve been testing out various drugstore mascaras. So far, the one that has impressed me the most is Maybelline’s Lash Sensational. However, I don’t like how hard it is to remove. I haven’t re-purchased that yet either though in the name of testing more. Honestly, I don’t really think I have a ride or die mascara, I play the field too much in this category! haha
LIPSTICK
Marc Jacobs Le Marc Crème Lipstick in Je T’Aime. Ever since this lipstick came into my life earlier this year I have been obsessed with it. The formula is just amazing and the shade is a beautiful rum raspberry.
LIQUID LIP
This another tough one… but, Colourpop’s Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick in the shade Beeper definitely reigns supreme in my collection. It’s long-wearing, doesn’t dry out my lips (I have a high tolerance for liquid lipsticks though) and I love the shade. It’s a warm mid-tone taupe and I find it pairs well with a variety of looks.
GLOSS
I personally, don’t like wearing glosses… next question!
LASHES
I only just started wearing false lashes recently so I don’t really have a ride or die yet.
EYESHADOW PALETTE
Hmm… While I’m very open about my love for the Anastasia Beverly Hills Self-Made Palette… I think my ride or die would actually be the Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette. I wear it the most out of any palette in my collection and it is my default if I don’t really have an eye shadow look in mind.
SETTING SPRAY
I don’t know if I would call it “ride or die” but I do enjoy the Urban Decay All Nighter setting spray.
PERFUME
I don’t wear a lot of perfumes because I work in a scent-free environment, but I do love Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue. This was the perfume that I wore on my wedding day so the scent always brings me to a happy place.
So I have definitely changed a few items from my original holy grail post, but there have been some additions and a few original products that I’m still loving.
I’m not going to tag anyone in particular, but if you do this tag, leave me your link below! I’d love to hear what your ride or die makeup products are!

Some days I wished I work in a scent-free environment, but I love wearing perfume (LIGHTLY!). There’s this one woman at work who wears the most musky perfumes ever. She gives people headaches and triggers asthma attacks. People have spoken to her and she’ll lay off for a bit and then it slowly ramps back up. ICK.
But, back to the post! It’s SO difficult to chose bests of every category like this! I think if I was to ever do this tag, I would just put a disclaimer that these are for my favourites AT THE MOMENT. 😛 I can see that you’re a real fan of Urban Decay products!

Oh man, working with someone who wears a strong scent would be awful!
Haha, yeah it’s definitely hard to pick bests. Mine are definitely bests until betters come along. And haha, I’m a fan of Urban Decay? How did you guess? lol! Haven’t found one yet that let me down 😀
