Love of Reading: November Edition

love-of-reading

Hi guys! I’ve finally had a chance to catch up on some reading this month and managed to finish three books. I love the feeling of snuggling up in bed or on the couch with a cup of tea and a good book. I find it so relaxing as I slip away into another world. So, let’s chat about what I read this month!

I Let You Go by Clare Mackintosh

This book choice was inspired by Polished and Inspired! She compared it to Gone Girl and Girl on the Train so I knew I had to pick this book up. I actually had loaded it onto my Kobo Reader in August but only got around to reading it now. I don’t really know how to describe it without giving away the plot twists… the book is based around a car accident in which a child was killed and the various lives that it impacts. If you enjoyed psychological thrillers such as Gone Girl (or any of Gillian Flynn’s books) or Girl on the Train you will likely enjoy this book too. I was definitely taken by surprise a few times as I read through it.

First Comes Love by Emily Giffin

Emily Giffin’s books are something that I always pick up when I see she has a new one out. I always enjoy her books! First Comes Love is her latest novel which is about two sisters whose relationship was strained by the passing of their older brother a decade earlier. Meredith and Josie, like most sisters, also could not be any more different. What I enjoyed about the book is that it alternates chapters between the two points of view so you can really understand their strained relationship from both sides.

The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena

I was browsing through Chapters on Black Friday and this book caught my eye, and was on sale (bonus!). After reading I Let You Go, I really felt like another book that would have twists and turns. The Couple Next Door is about Anne and Marco, a couple who seem to have it all. They have a loving relationship and a beautiful baby girl, Cora. One night while they are out at a dinner party next door, an awful crime is committed and suspicion focuses on the parents. Various secrets that they have been keeping from each other are revealed as you read through this deceptive novel. I really enjoyed it! I actually read the whole thing in one evening and couldn’t put it down.

  1. I’ve read both I Let You Go and The Couple Next Door, and I think I prefer I Let You Go, just because all of the characters in The Couple Next Door were so unlikeable! Will have to check out the Emily Giffen book though – I’ve only read one of her books, but it was really good.
