Best of 2016: The Game Changers

Best of 2016 Game Changers

Hi guys! I don’t know about you but I am thrilled to see the end of 2016. It’s been a really tough year on my friends and family and I’m ready for what I hope to be a better 2017. But, since the year is coming to an end, it is also time to look back and acknowledge some game changing beauty products that for me were the best of 2016. These products may not all be new releases to 2016 but they were products that were new to me and were, you guessed it, game changing. I’m not going to go over every makeup category as I recently did the Ride or Die Makeup Tag which goes over general favourites for each category (new and old). So without further ado… here are my best of 2016 choices!

Anastasia Beverly Hills | Dipbrow (Taupe)

I recently gave this brow pomade a glowing review and for good reason. Though it came into my life later in 2016, it really changed my brow game for the better. I never really felt confident in my brow abilities, but when I wear this I feel like my brows look their best. Definitely up high on my best of 2016 list!

Marc Jacobs Beauty | Le Marc Crème Lipstick (J’Adore)

I reviewed this lipstick as part of my Love for Lipstick series and it was an instant favourite. I love the shade and I love the formula. The wear time and comfort of this lipstick, to me, are amazing. I’ll definitely be grabbing more shades from this line in the years to come. Personally, I find them a worthy investment.

Kat Von D | Shade + Light Contour Palette

Though I’ve enjoyed the Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit for a year or so now, I haven’t touched it since this product came into my life a month or so ago. The shades in this kit are very pigmented but also blend out amazingly. They remind me of the matte eye shadow formula that Kat Von D uses so it’s no surprise here that I love this. While I may not get use out of every shade, I love that this is refillable so when I get low on my favourites I can replace them more cost-efficiently.

Kat Von D | Metal Matte Palette

One of the standout eye shadow palette releases of this year, the limited edition Metal Matte Palette climbed right into my heart the second I started applying it the very first time. I love the vast colour selection and the formula of the shadows included. I did a variety of looks using this palette here!

Lorac | Pro Palette 2

Another palette I picked up this past year and fell in love with. The shadows are such a joy to work with and have convinced me I need more Lorac Pro Palettes in my life. The Pro 2 Palette is versatile and has had me reaching for it time and time again.

Palette-wise, some other honourable mentions for this past year would also include the Violet Voss x Laura Lee Palette and the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette which were also winners in my books. However I don’t want to sit here and do nothing but list eye shadow palettes to keep this a relatively balanced best of 2016 list.

Becca | Blotting Powder Perfector (Translucent)

As an oily skinned gal, I’m always looking for a mattifying powder to set my entire face. The less I need to touch up throughout the day, the better. For the past year or so, I had been using the Maybelline FitMe Matte + Poreless Powder (translucent) and it had worked well but I usually touched up a few areas at lunch. Once I purchased the Becca Blotting Powder Perfector (translucent) the need to touch up has disappeared. This keeps my makeup matte and natural looking all day. By natural I mean, it doesn’t look like I’m caked in powder and my face feels soft to the touch.

Urban Decay | All Nighter Foundation (0.5)

While I don’t wear this foundation every day (I usually go for the more wallet-friendly L’Oreal Pro-Matte) this is my go-to for special occasions. I love the way this matches and looks on my skin. The formula is very long-wearing and works well with my oily skin. I’ve seen mixed reviews on it, but personally, it works for me and I love it.

What are your best of 2016, game changing products? Let me know in the comments down below! I’ve got a separate post coming up later this week with my most worn lipstick shades of 2016 (new and old) so be sure to look out for that!

xoxo,

Robyn

  1. I love reading best of lists! I need to gather my stuff together…
From your list, I think I want to try the Le Marc Crème Lipstick and Becca Blotting Powder Perfector! I had the old Becca pressed powder (mineral something) and it was great!

    • The Becca Blotting Powder Perfector may just be one of my absolute favourites of the year. My usual mid-day shiny skin issue is greatly reduced! Can’t wait to read your picks!

  2. These posts are the best! I love reading year-end favourites! Isn’t Pro 2 amazing!? It’s one of my fav’s for sure as well. I’m very intrigued by the Becca powder and the UD foundation. Great pics 🙂

    • Yes, the Pro 2 is definitely amazing!! The Becca powder is absolutely incredible. I’m normally at least a little shiny by lunch but haven’t been in ages!!

  3. I love that Lorac palette. Actually I haven’t met a Lorac palette I don’t like.

I hated that UD foundation though. HATED IT. I tried 3 different shades and all of them oxidized real bad on me. Plus they looked patchy on me as the day went on. Was so disappointed.

    • The Lorac palette is fantastic!

Oh that’s too bad! I absolutely love it! But, things work differently for everyone! That’s part of what makes makeup so fascinating!
