Love of Reading: December Edition

love of reading

Hi guys! This is the last love of reading post to close off 2016! At the end of this post I’m going to include a recap of how many books I read each month so we can see where I landed with my goal to read 24 books in 2016 (2 per month). I just barely managed two in December, but I did it! Let’s take a peek at what I read.

Two by Two by Nicholas Sparks

I love Nicholas Sparks books so I just had to read his latest novel, Two by Two. This is a book about the relationship between a father and his young daughter as he goes through many life changes and overcomes some personal struggles. While I did quite enjoy the book, and it’s writing style (each chapter started with a flash back to a memory before returning to the present), I wouldn’t say it’s my favourite Nicholas Sparks book by any means.

The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins

This was actually a re-read for me. I really want to watch the movie but when I was about to watch it, I realized I couldn’t remember most of the plot. Though I really enjoyed the book the first time, I just didn’t seem to retain much of it. So, rather than watch the movie, I decided to read it again. It’s one of those psychological thriller type books, such as Gone Girl. This one is about a girl named Rachel who rides the same train every day and becomes fascinated with a couple who she frequently sees while on the train. When the woman in the couple goes missing, Rachel finds herself drawn to the investigation. I won’t say much else, but it’s a good read if you haven’t already read it! I’ll be watching the movie soon, hopefully.

Recapping 2016:

January | 2 books read

February | 2 books read

March | 2 books read

April | 1 book read

May | 3 books read

June | 2 books read

July | 2 books read

August | 1 book read

September | 0 books read (was working one one though)

October | 1 book read

November | 3 books read

December | 2 books read

Total: 21 books read in 2016

So, overall, I only fell short by 3 books. A few of the books I read were actually quite long so I think a ‘pages read’ goal may have been more achievable. Nonetheless, I am quite happy to see that for the most part I was able to stick to my goal of reading more. I read a lot of great books and can’t wait to see what I read in 2017.

What’s in Store for 2017…

As I mentioned in  my goals post, I’d like to up my reading to THREE books a month. But, I think I’m going to use page numbers or words as a measurement tool. Haven’t decided which yet, but once I do, I’ll talk about that in my January 2017 post! I also want to start rating each book so I’ll be working on a scale for that which will also be revealed in my next post. I’m going to develop a list of books I want to read to help make my book selection this year a little easier. Figuring out what I want to read ends up being a deterrent to reading.

Have you read anything amazing lately? Let me know in the comments down below!

xoxo,

Robyn

  1. Good for you for reading as much as you do. I love reading too but I never seem to get around to it, except when I’m on vacation. I need to start replacing my phone with my ereader more this year. 😉
I read the Girl on the Train on vacation last month and I liked it – but I found it a little predictable. It was a good beach read though! 🙂

    • Haha, yeah that’s what I’ve been trying to do. Read at times when I’m usually glued to my phone. It’s been working, but now when people mention local news, I have no idea what they are talking about. haha! I think it’s helped my ability to fall asleep at night though. Not staring at a screen first!
