3 Products that Don’t Work for Me

Hi guys! I usually try to keep things positive over here as makeup is such a subjective thing to write about. When I try products out, I always keep in mind that what works for one may not work for everyone. Everyone’s skin type, shade and needs are so versatile. Anyways, I thought I would share 3 products that just didn’t work for me and share my thoughts on why. Perhaps what I didn’t like about them will be reasons you WOULD like them. That is why I just love makeup so much. One person’s disliked products, can be someone else’s holy grail. This is part of why I love reading beauty blogs as much as I enjoy writing one… I’ve seen many negative reviews (some absolutely scathing!) on products that I absolutely and honestly adore. It’s quite fascinating!

L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara

I wrote a review on this product a few months ago and I had mentioned that while I liked it, I didn’t know if I would repurchase as I was experiencing clumping with it. Months later and I’m still experiencing a lot of clumping so I would say it just isn’t working for me. My lashes are quite close together and clump quickly so if just one coat of this = clumping, it just isn’t working. But, I have a friend who loves this mascara, so it does work for some! I wouldn’t discourage anyone from trying it by any means. However, if you’re prone to clumping, I’d suggest passing on it.

Maybelline FitMe Matte + Poreless Foundation

This isn’t a complaint about the formula at all, I did enjoy it quite a bit! The reason that this product doesn’t work for me is more in the shade range. The lightest shade has a bit of a yellow undertone to it so it doesn’t match as well as my other foundations. I can make it work though so I will finish the bottle (slowly) but I wouldn’t repurchase it. If you like a matte foundation and you have a shade that matches though, I’d recommend trying it out. Personally though, I’ll be sticking to my L’Oreal Pro-Matte (even though every time I repurchase it the price seems to be climbing!). I never seem to find a good shade match with Maybelline unfortunately.

Too Faced Shadow Insurance

I got a sample of this with an eye shadow palette at some point and I’ve been wearing it a lot lately since I’m nearly out of my holy grail Urban Decay Eye Shadow Primer Potion. I find that the texture of this product is a little bit on the slippery/oily side so it just doesn’t make my eye shadow last as long as with the Urban Decay. While some days this primer does the trick, on others I’m left with bald patches and creases by the end of the day. Perhaps my eye lids are too oily for this primer or something. I find the Urban Decay one feels a bit more matte when it dries down.

What are some products that you tried that didn’t work for you? Let me know in the comments down below!

Robyn

  1. The TF Eyeshadow Primer used to be my favourite but I’m using a brand new tube that I just purchased and it seems like it’s changed – it separates and is really oily. I’m confused because my last tube wasn’t like this at all and I’m also super annoyed! It used to be the only eyelid primer that worked for me. Not sure I’ll be repurchasing it.

That mascara has been on my list to try for years but I’ve never gotten around to it, perhaps I’m not missing anything! 🙂

    • If you aren’t prone to your lashes clumping you might like the mascara. I do like the one in the black tube. A have a friend who swears by the gold tube but I guess it’s all personal preference! I just don’t like how my lashes look with it on. They go from zero to clumpy fast because of how they grow I guess lol

  2. I remember trying that L’Oreal Telescopic mascara and thinking I got a defective tube – it did nothing for length and was a clumpy mess. Glad I’m not crazy!
Oh too bad the Too Faced Shadow Insurance didn’t work for you – I personally love it. I haven’t used it in ages but the only thing I didn’t like was that it would separate in the tube over time. I find the UD Primer Potion to be too dry – it would be difficult to blend eye shadow on top of it.

    • Yeah I definitely think the dry/matteness of the UD Primer Potion is exactly what makes it work for me. I always set it with a neutral eye shadow before I start working on my eye makeup so I don’t really have any issues blending. I find the Too Faced Shadow Insurance is way too slippery, some days my eye shadow lasts through the day and others its a creasey faded mess 😢 Just to use it up, I’ll keep using it on days where I just have fairly basic makeup on.
