Hi guys! Today I have a tag for you that I saw over on the lovely blog Classy on the Run! When I read her post I enjoyed it so much I just had to participate as well. I definitely recommend checking out her blog, it’s become one of my go-to blogs to read over the past year and always enjoy her posts.
How old were you when you first started wearing makeup?
I remember playing with makeup sets when I was probably between 8 and 10 to play ‘make over’ but I didn’t start wearing makeup ‘for real’ until I was in grade 7 so, 12 years old.
How did you get into makeup?
Like most girls my age, my first makeup products that I collected and wore were Lip Smackers when I was into those beginning when I was 8 I think. I hoarded them, I don’t think I really used up many of them but there were a few shades that were definitely favourites. There was a silver glittery one that I recall being particularly fond of.
When I was 12 I remember my mom let me wear some makeup to a party and after that it became an every day occurrence. At the time there was a sparkly blue Cover Girl eye shadow that I really loved. This would always be paired with black eye liner and some mascara. Aside from that I didn’t wear much else until later.I also had a purple Bonne Bell Lipstick that was in a silver tube that I loved when I was 12 and this is likely what started my purple lipstick obsession.
What are some of your favourite brands?
Some of my absolute favourite brands include Urban Decay, Kat Von D, Too Faced and Colourpop. I regularly purchase products from those brands and am seldom, if ever, disappointed. As far as drugstore goes, I also really love Essence and have been starting to try their products.
What does makeup mean to you?
To me, makeup is all about self expression and creativity. I love to think of the face as a canvas full of possibilities. I find that people are too quick to judge people and how much makeup they wear. Personally, I wear quite a bit and it isn’t about being insecure or whatever else people want to say, putting my makeup on every day is an enjoyable experience that makes me happy. All the negative connotations drive me crazy!
If you could only wear four products on your face, what would they be?
Hmmm… foundation, a mattifying powder, mascara and lipstick! I wish I didn’t have to include the powder but, let’s be real, if I didn’t include that I’d be an oily mess pretty quick!
What is your favourite thing about makeup?
This is a bit of a repeat of what makeup means to me, but again, my favourite thing about makeup is the creative aspect of it. When I was younger I always wished I was artistic (I’m not – that gene skipped me and went to my super talented sister who designed my blog header) and I think I’ve finally found my medium.
What do you think of drugstore vs. high end makeup?
I think both have a place in any makeup lover’s heart. Personally, I use and love products from both. To me, it’s all about the quality of the product. The drugstore has many great items that have become favourites.
What is one tip of advice you can give a beginner?
Be open minded, experiment and watch some YouTube tutorials. I watched tons before I started experimenting with makeup. Although I never actually did any of the looks that I watched, what I did learn was technique.
What is the one makeup trend you’ve never understood?
Glitter lips. I think they look beautiful and I’m always in awe when I see them on Instagram but, then I start thinking about the practicality of it, haha! I can almost feel the glitter transferring into my mouth… yuck!
What do you think about the beauty community on YouTube (or Blogging Community)?
I think it is super welcoming and supportive. From the moment I posted my very first post, I had people from the WordPress community welcoming me. The support and encouragement is what helps keep this blog alive. Though I have not met anyone in person from the blogging community yet, I feel like I’ve made some really great friends. Sharing a similar interest that you love enough to blog about it is really something.
I’m not going to tag anyone in particular but if you do participate I would love to read your posts!
xoxo,
Robyn

You started earlier than me. I started to dabble in makeup in grade 9, that was when I was “officially” allowed. I think most girls started out wearing Bonne Bell! 😆 It’s like gateway makeup.
The question about drugstore vs high-end is tough but if push comes to shove, I would choose drugstore because at least I know I’m not overpaying even if something doesn’t work out.
I don’t think I’ve done this Tag! 😮

Wow a tag you haven’t done?! I thought about tagging you but I figured you’ve done it, haha!
So true about the drugstore and if a product doesn’t work out. That’s why I’m more likely to try foundations there since it’s so difficult to find a match most of the time. At least I only wasted half the money I would have with high end!
