Hi guys! A little under a month ago I received the Rimmel Voxbox from Influenster complimentary for review. It contains the Rimmel Shake it Fresh Mascara and the Only 1 Matte Lipstick in the shade Trendsetter. Given I enjoy testing mascaras and I loooove matte lipstick I was pretty excited to start testing these out. After a few weeks of testing, I’m ready to share my thoughts on them.
Rimmel Shake it Fresh Mascara
The premise behind the Rimmel Shake it Fresh Mascara is that it delivers clump-free volume with it’s patented shaker system, which allows you to shake your mascara when it needs a refresh. I have to say, this formula is so wet, I can’t really see it getting dry or clumpy before the mascara itself is ready to be tossed. However, given that we are always told not to shake mascara, it is quite satisfying to shake it up.
The applicator is an average sized brush-style which is easy to maneuver. The packaging itself is quite heavier than your average mascara tube which would be due to the ‘shake’ technology.
Now, the formula is where this review will take a negative turn. This mascara delivers absolutely no volume. I found when I used it my lashes just kind of stick out. It’s quite natural looking in that there isn’t even a curl added to the lashes. It does stay on all day and didn’t have any flaking or smudge though. It was also quite easy to remove. Overall though, I won’t be using this regularly, if at all.
Rimmel The Only 1 Matte Lipstick in Trendsetter
The Rimmel Only 1 Matte Lipstick is meant to deliver on multiple ‘needs’ in one lipstick – pigmentation, longevity and moisture. It has a slight watermelon scent to it, but it disappears after application and doesn’t leave a taste on the lips.
It definitely does deliver on all three promises. The formula is very pigmented so you don’t need more than one layer on the lips to get the shade in the tube. As well, it is quite moisturizing and although it is matte, does not feel dry at all on the lips. Longevity-wise, it wears quite well for a standard tube lipstick. It isn’t on the same level as say, a liquid lipstick, where it can wear up to 12 hours, but it lasts through a whole work morning or afternoon. Overall, I enjoyed wearing this lipstick and would throw it into my rotation!
My lashes look a bit clumpy because I tried to add a third coat after it had dried a bit, hoping to give my lashes some kind of oomph and it backfired when they stuck together.
I absolutely love the shade Trendsetter on my lips! When I first saw it I was a bit underwhelmed but I really enjoy the look of it on. It goes with a variety of makeup looks.
Have you tried either of these Rimmel products? Let me know in the comments down below!

These products were sent to me complimentary for review, however all thoughts and opinions are my own.
I’ve never tried any Rimmel lipsticks (surprisingly) but this one looks really great on you! Love the shade with your skin tone!

Thanks! This was my first Rimmel lipstick in a long time, I never think of them for lipstick for some reason!

Sucks about the mascara! It might be a good layering mascara though. I find some of my volumizing mascaras don’t deliver much in the way of length, so I layer another one on top. Give that a whirl, maybe.
I’ve been eyeing those lipsticks – impressive that a longwearing lipstick also provides moisture. The shade looks great on you!

Yeah this mascara didn’t really deliver anything, it just coated them and they stuck straight out 😫 definitely a pass from all angles! At least the lipstick worked out though 🙂

Too bad about the mascara – although that whole concept seems a little gimmicky.
The lip colour looks great on you!

Definitely super gimmicky! I have no desire to use it ever again. But at least the lipstick is nice!
