Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer

Tarte Shape Tape

Hi guys! Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer is probably a product you’ve heard about time and time again. That Ulta exclusive that is a bit of a pain for the rest of the world to get their hands on (unless you want to pay an arm and a leg for shipping and exchange like I did). After a couple of months of using solely this concealer, I’m ready to put in my two cents on this popular product.

Tarte Shape Tape

The first thing I noticed about Tarte Shape Tape is how big the tube and wand are. At first I wondered if it was bulky packaging but the amount of product you get is quite impressive (and took away some my shipping & exchange rate bitterness). Compared to my usual go-to, Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer which contains 5 ml of product, you get 10 ml with Tarte Shape Tape! Definitely makes this more of a worthwhile investment.

Tarte Shape Tape Fair Swatch

Formula-wise, Tarte Shape Tape is quite pigmented and I feel like it could cover anything up. I tend to purchase the lightest concealer possible so that I can use it to highlight my under eye area/above my cheekbone so I wouldn’t necessarily use this shade to cover up anything else. Due to the pigmentation, I find I can get away with using a tiny stripe and then blending it into my usual triangular shape. It blends flawlessly and effortlessly into the skin. I tend to use a dampened beauty-blender-type of applicator.

Tarte Shape Tape Fair Swatch Blended

As for wear time, I do always set it with powder, but I don’t notice any major fading or patchiness throughout the day. It does settle into my fine lines directly under my eyes, but I find it’s the case with most concealers. It’s also probably something that only I notice because I know the lines are there. It gets a little dry and cakey under the inner corner of my eye as the day progresses but once I started adding a drop of oil to my blender, this problem went away.

Tarte Shape Tape

Something else to note about Tarte Shape Tape is that it has a floral scent. It’s not necessarily my favourite scent, but it fades fast and I hardly notice it anymore. But, if this is something that may bother you, it is worth considering.

Compared to my beloved Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer in Fair Neutral, it’s a touch lighter and has a slight yellow undertone to it. I find it looks very brightening under the eye which I love. I also decided to throw in Too Faced Born this Way Concealer in Very Fair to point out how not fair at all it is! I mainly use it to mix with concealers in the summer when I’m a touch darker.

Overall, I think I may have converted full-time to this beauty as my main concealer. It checks off all of my boxes and it applies and blends so beautifully. Tarte… why can’t this be easier to get in Canada?!

Have you tried the Tart Shape Tape Contour Concealer yet? Let me know in the comments down below!

Robyn

  1. That’s good to know you get 10ml of product with this. I’m always shocked to find out how little product you get sometimes.
I’ve heard that this tends to be drying which is why I’m hesitant to try it. Great idea about adding oil.
Good that you compared this to 2 other concealers – both of which I’ve used! I hated the UD one (oxidized like crazy and SO drying), whereas I find the TF to be lack staying power and doesn’t conceal enough. 😛

    • I still love the Urban Decay one but I think I like this one a little bit more. Based on how much you get, it definitely helps justify the shipping and exchange 🙂

  2. The fact that they won’t sell this in Canada is beyond annoying to me! The problem being that I don’t feel I can live without this concealer – it’s so freaking good! Mine is quickly running out so I’m probably going to have to suck it up and place an order online soon – rip my wallet!

  3. I just ordered mine from the Tarte website, as they just released them on the site this month I believe and they have free shipping over $75. I bought two and I am so excited to get them and start using them!

    • I ordered mine from their website too! It was the only option at the time, but I think it ended up being less expensive than if I had ordered from Ulta even once shipping to Canada became an option. Hope you enjoy it! It’s a great concealer!

  4. I have only heard amazing things about the shape tape there seems to be so much rave around this product and I’m glad it worked out for you considering how difficult it must have been to get from Ulta! I’m going to have to check this out the next time I’m in the States!

    • Yeah I’m really loving it! I actually ordered it from the Tarte website before Ulta started offering shipping to Canada. I’ll have to do a comparison though to see which is less expensive. I’m thinking it may be less expensive directly through Tarte.
