Love for Lipstick: Lipsense

Hi guys! I feel like for the past year or so, Lipsense by SeneGence has been everywhere I look. At work, on Instagram, on Facebook, at local events, you name it. Lipsense appears to be SeneGence’s most popular product as it is a long-wearing lipstick with some serious claims. It is said to last up to 18 hours and to be kiss proof, smudge proof and water proof. Basically, it sounds like it can survive an apocalypse. I have to admit, I was really skeptical of this “miracle” product, being an avid hoarder of lipsticks of all varieties. However, when Hallie of All Day Everyday Lips, a local distributor offered me a set for review, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to see if this product really works.

With a whopping forty-five shades to choose from, I chose the shade Berry. I love deep shades like this for the fall. Also, dark colours also seem to be the most noticeable when they disappear so it seemed perfect for a wear test. Hallie also provided me with a Glossy Gloss and an Ooops! Remover so that I had everything I needed to begin this Lipsense journey.

Lipsense Berry

The first thing I noticed, and was warned about is that you might experience a faint stinging sensation when applying this to the lips. This is due to the alcohol denat which is in the product. It is cosmetically safe to use and honestly, after the first application I didn’t notice it again.

Lipsense is applied in layers to clean, dry lips. This is new concept for me as I typically apply a balm while I’m putting on my makeup and generally only apply one layer of product. It applies in thin, but easy to maneuver layers and builds in opacity as you add the next layer. Each layer requires 3-5 seconds to dry before applying the next one. The neat thing about this layering system is that you can layer different shades to create new colour combinations. While I only currently own the one shade, Hallie graciously sent me a few examples of her own. She has tons of beautiful photos using Lipsense on her Instagram page so I highly recommend checking it out!

Lipsense All Day Everyday Lips

To seal in the lipstick, you need to apply a Lipsense Gloss. This helps moisturize the lips, as well as protects the product throughout the day. The gloss can be reapplied as much as you want throughout the day. I’m not normally a gloss girl, but I found it felt quite nice. It feels a bit thick but wasn’t too sticky. It definitely did feel moisturizing on the lips. I mostly reapplied after eating or drinking, or whenever my lips felt like they could use some extra moisture. Once the gloss has sealed in the product, it seriously does become transfer proof. They also make a matte gloss which I’m quite intrigued by.

Finally, the Ooops! Remover is the last piece of the set. This product helps correct mistakes during application (which I surprisingly haven’t had any yet) and also helps remove the product at the end of the night. Just a thin layer of this product, a couple seconds and a damp wash cloth is all you need to remove it at the end of the night. I did have to do a bit of scrubbing to remove it but the remover itself feels quite gentle on the lips.

As you can see, aside from the amount of gloss I have on changing photo-to-photo (depending on when I reapplied) my lipstick otherwise looks pretty much the same. There is a tiny bit that has flaked off from the most inner part of my lips, but aside from in these photos, I didn’t even notice when I was examining it in the mirror. I eventually did remove my lipstick at 8:30 as I was going to work out. Otherwise, I would have just kept it on.

Overall, I’m pretty impressed with Lipsense and could definitely see myself purchasing a shade or two! I’m already trying to think of which colours I’d want to layer… It definitely feels more hydrating than your traditional liquid lipstick because of the gloss. I definitely think this would be a suitable choice for those who find liquid lipsticks too drying but want something long-wearing. While I definitely do enjoy variety in my lipstick game, I think these are great for those times where you don’t want to be worrying about if your lipstick has started to vanish or if it is on your chin. I have to say, it’s quite liberating to eat with Lipsense on. It also should be noted that Lipsense is a vegan product that is also cruelty-free.

A huge thank you to Hallie for providing these products to me for review. You can check her out on Instagram or on Facebook!

  1. A distributor found me on Instagram & sent me a set to review awhile back. I was overly impressed and been thinking about getting another shade to try as well.
