Washing makeup brushes… It’s something that no one enjoys doing, but it is a necessary evil. Washing makeup brushes not only makes your brushes look cleaner but also removes the dirt, oils and bacteria from them. This helps prevent breakouts on your skin. I’ve used many methods to clean my brushes, but the method I prefer seems to be using a simple bar of Ivory Soap!
The majority of my brushes mostly come into contact with powders but a few are used for liquids and I find that Ivory Soap does a great job of getting them squeaky clean without drying out the bristles. My makeup brush collection contains both synthetic and synthetic brushes.
All I do to wash my brushes is I wet the bar of soap, and then wet the end of my brush, and I start swirling the brush into the bar of soap until the bar of soap gets the makeup all over it. Then, I switch to swirling it in my hand, going back and forth between the soap and my hand if the brush is particularly dirty. Once I’m satisfied with the cleanliness of the brush, I rinse it under water, and ring it out before setting it to dry. It’s important to try to keep the metal above the bristles dry so that you don’t damage the glue and cause your brush to shed.

Lipstick on the Lake 
I use a bar of Zote laundry soap. It’s huge, costs less than $1 here in the US and lasts for ages! I use this for my sponges too. But if I need to clean brushes in a hurry, I’ll use the Cinema Secrets or Face Secrets brush cleaners. You just pour some cleaner into a little bowl, dip the brush into the cleaner then wipe on a paper towel. I can clean 20+ brushes in maybe 10 minutes and the brushes are all sanitized and almost dry instantly.

Oooh I’ll have to keep an eye out for Zote next time I’m in the states. It sounds super familiar. I’ve seen the Cinema Secrets before, the idea of cleaning 20 blushes in 10 minutes sounds sooo appealing!

I use baby shampoo! I have a little plastic thing from the art store that’s meant to wash art brushes to rub the brushes to loosen makeup from the bristles.

I used to use baby shampoo but I found it left a film on my brushes, or maybe it was just harder to rinse out than the ivory. The plastic thing from the art store sounds really useful!

I use baby or natural shampoo and cheap makeup brush cleaner pad from Amazon.ca. I highly recommend getting one, they get all the deep dirt and product build up out of your brush. I love it! I wash my brushes more often now because I find it much easier.

I’ve been meaning to get a makeup brush cleaner pad. I had been looking at one from Sigma but a cheaper one would be much more preferable. Thanks for the tip!
