Best of 2017: The Game Changers

Best of 2017

I always find end of year favourites to be such a challenge. With so many products to choose from it’s hard to come up with a concise list that doesn’t miss anything. In keeping with how I did my best of 2016 post, I’m going to stick to what I considered to be game changers. These are products that I tried for the first time this year and loved enough to consider them “game changing”.

Face

Best of 2017 Face

Fenty Beauty | Invisimatte Blotting Powder

I think every year my list has a mattifying powder on it and it is because they are such a staple in my makeup routine. Though the Fenty Beauty Invismatte Blotting Powder came into my life in the later part of the year it was definitely a game changer for me. It keeps my face nice and matte and is great for touch-ups!

Tarte | Shape Tape Concealer

A bit late to the Tarte Shape Tape Concealer train, but I purchased this in 2017 and it has been my go-to ever since. Initially I found it a bit drying but I haven’t noticed that at all lately. It is pigmented, blends in beautifully and lasts throughout the day. What more could I want? Though I have to admit I’m eager to try Urban Decay’s new All-Nighter Concealer… Will that end up on my 2018 Game Changer list? Only time will tell…

Makeup Revolution | Oil Control Fixing Spray

I don’t always use a setting spray but once I purchased the Makeup Revolution Oil Control Fixing Spray it has become a vital part of my routine. It’s inexpensive and it works!

Eyes

Best of 2017 Palettes

Morphe | The Jaclyn Hill Palette

The Jaclyn Hill Palette by Morphe is just… everything. It has everything I could possibly want in a palette and the shadows perform so well. The possibilities with it are just endless and I’ve posted both my first impressions and a weeks worth of makeup looks using it!

Too Faced | Just Peachy Mattes Palette

I never thought a matte eye shadow palette would be such a game changer for me but here we are. The Too Faced Just Peachy Mattes Palette is by far one of my favourite palettes of the year. It smells delicious, the eyeshadows blend like a dream and I’ve found it to be very versatile! I wear it all the time.

Lips

Bite Beauty | Agave Lip Mask

How is it only this year that I finally purchased the Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask? My matte-lipstick wearing lips have never been happier! In fact, just last week after a full day of travelling my lips were SO tried out and just a little of this on my lips when I got home and I woke up the next morning to perfectly moisturized lips. It’s a miracle for your lips in a tube!

Buxom | Full-On Lip Polish in Dolly

2017 was the year where I started wearing lip gloss occasionally which is something I never really did before. I won Buxom’s Full-On Lip Polish in Dolly in a giveaway hosted by Nicole of Pretty Ruff Life and it has lived in my purse ever since. I like this soft neutral colour as it goes with everything and it isn’t too sticky.

Hail Cosmetics | Eternal Matte Lipstick

This list would be incomplete without mentioning Hail Cosmetics and their Eternal Matte Lipsticks! My first Love for Lipstick post of the year featured the first of these beauties that I owned and now I am up to three! Though, I definitely feel like I need even more of these beauties. Locally hand-crafted in Thunder Bay AND matte? They are definitely a win for me and I love supporting a local company.

Tarte | Tarteist Creamy Matte Lip Paint

You all know I love a good liquid lipstick and the Tarteist Creamy Matte Lip Paint was definitely a product that I tried this year and fell in love with. It lasted SO long on the lips and is a great formula to work with. It does transfer but I didn’t find it to affect the wear time at all.

Skincare

Best of 2017 Skincare

Glamglow | Supermud Clearing Treatment

The Glamglow Supermud Clearing Treatment has been essential for extracting dirt and debris from my pores. It shows the dots of vacuum extractions because of it’s Pore-Matrix technology which also makes it fun to look at when it has fully dried. It is a bit pricy but I find I come across samples of this on the Sephora website quite frequently and I tend to buy the travel size to cut down the cost and prevent it from drying up in the pot.

Garnier | SkinActive Moisture Bomb Sheet Mask

The Garnier SkinActive Moisture Bomb Sheet Mask was definitely my favourite sheet mask of the year. It fit my face SO well, it didn’t move or slide around at all. It also made my skin feel nice and smooth and is an affordable choice that you can find at the drugstore. It isn’t pictured as I don’t currently have any on hand but I need to pick up more soon!

Well, those were my game changers for 2017! I’m sure I missed a few products but I feel like I must have captured most of them! What products were game changers for you in 2017? Let me know in the comments below!

xoxo,

Robyn

  1. The Buxom lipgloss looks lovely! I’ve started wearing lipgloss more often this past year too and it sounds like it’ll be the perfect addition to my collection too (especially as the colour looks so nice)! The Tarte concealer sounds great too – do you tend to use it under the eyes or for blemishes/redness – I’m in desperate need of a new under-eye concealer myself! x

    • I solely wear it under my eyes and it works great! The shade is a touch lighter than my foundation (which I prefer under the eye) so I wouldn’t probably use it for blemishes.

  2. It IS tough to narrow down the best products of the year! You did well!
I’ve been thinking of getting the Fenty Blotting Powder – I’d get the brush that magnetizes to the base too.
I will get my hands on the Tarte Shape Tape Concealer in 2018! There’s just so much hype… some people don’t love it but I’m just so curious.
I have the full size of the Buxom Full-On Lip Polish in Dolly but the minty sensation is too much for me. I made the mistake of wearing it when it was really cold outside and my lips almost fell off! 😛
I posted my HG list recently here:

    • Shape Tape was definitely one of the most talked about products the past year! I personally really like it but yeah it’s definitely one of those things that you either love or you hate. So weird how makeup is like that!

I could definitely see how some people may not like the minty sensation from Buxom, but I love it! It’ so refreshing!
