YSL Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick

Last spring I won a YSL Beauty Box Giveaway hosted by beauty editor, Dave Lackie. In this prize was a YSL Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick, a formula I hadn’t tried before but obviously was excited to test out. Somehow it took me this long to do a proper test but I’m ready to share my thoughts on this product with you today. I received shade #201, Orange Imagine which is a beautiful matte orange red shade.

The gold packaging of this lipstick feels very luxe and has a bit of weight to it. The square shape of the tube, while not completely unique, does make it stand out a bit more in my collection of mostly classic round tubes. YSL Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick has a faint scent to it, I want to say it might be roses? The scent doesn’t last on the lips so you don’t have to worry about that if you are sensitive to scented products.

The YSL Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick claims to provide a pigmentation to the lips, while providing hydration and antioxidant care. I would say that both of these claims are accurate. All it took was one swipe to get full pigmentation to the lips. While shade #201 Orange Imagine is supposed to be a matte shade (as opposed to the satin choices), it did not dry down matte. It kept more of a creamy satin finish to it which I was fine with. I think I forgot it was supposed to be matte until I did some quick research before writing this post.

As you can see above, this is not really a long-wearing lipstick, but it doesn’t claim to be either. It felt really nice on the lips and didn’t ever fully lose pigmentation. I did eat an oily salad for lunch so that probably expedited it’s breakdown. I did re-apply after lunch and it didn’t ball up on the old lipstick, it just nicely blended together.

Overall, I did really enjoy this lipstick though I would hesitate to spend $42 CAD on a lipstick when there are so many great choices for half the price or less. That being said, it is a nice treat and I will enjoy having this in my collection as the shade is gorgeous!
