February Favourites: Makeup, Skincare, Haircare & More!

February Favourites

It’s once again time for my monthly favourites and I actually have a lot of miscellaneous favourites for you today along with my usual makeup and skincare favourites! February is the month of love so let’s see what I was loving this month!

Laura Mercier | Foundation Primer – Radiance

I am not usually one for any sort of primer that has the word “radiant” in it. Generally, these make my already shiny/oily skin look even more like an oil-slick. However, I have been finding lately that the cold winter we have been experiencing in Thunder Bay is making my skin look dry and lifeless. I still have to use a mattifying foundation and powder but I have been finding that adding this primer underneath (instead of a matte one) has been adding a little extra oomph to my skin. I don’t think I’d use it all year round but I could see this becoming a staple for the winter months.

Sephora | Cream Lip Stain in Pink Tea (#40)

I’ve had the Sephora Cream Lip Stain in Pink Tea (#40) since the summer when Sephora sent it to me as part of an invitation to their store opening here in Thunder Bay and I hadn’t opened it until now. I’m not sure why, I think it just got lost in the shuffle. Anyways, I finally tried it earlier this month and I have been wearing it almost daily ever since. It is such a beautiful dusty mauve/rose shade that seems to go with everything. I have also found it to be very comfortable to wear on the lips all day. I’m going to need to pick up more of these!

Essence | Pure Nude Highlighter

I picked up this highlighter earlier this month. It’s a product I’ve been meaning to buy for ages as I’ve seen lots of positive reviews of it online. It’s a self-proclaimed highlight to suit all skin tones. I can only speak for my fair skin but I love the way it looks on my cheekbones. It gives a very nice, almost natural looking shine to the skin and has great lasting power as well. This will definitely become one of my go-to highlights.

Skincare

CND Solar Oil

CND | Solar Oil

I used to have amazing cuticles but somewhere along the lines I stopped caring for them. I’ve been adding CND Solar Oil back into my daily routine and I’ve been seeing huge improvements with the health of my cuticle area. I usually apply it twice daily when I’m watching tv so I’ve been keeping it in my living room as a reminder to apply it. There are many cuticle oils on the market but I like this one because I love the smell of it. It smells like sweet almonds. I’m almost out of my bottle so I am going to have to pick up more soon!

Haircare

John Frieda | Frizz Ease

I’ve had this in my bathroom for a long time and just recently remembered to start using it again. My hair has a tendency to get frizzy but adding this to my damp hair before adding other styling products really has been helping keep my hair frizz-free. I’m not sure why I ever stopped using it in the first place!

Gummiband | Hair Cords*

I received a PR package of Gummiband hair cords back in December and I’ve been using them ever since. At first I was still using my other hair ties as well (just because I usually have them laying around the house for quick-use) however I am now fully converted to these lovely products. They are great for so many reasons (read my full review here) but I mostly love how they snap back to their original shape after a day or two (or you can apply heat via a hair dryer or cup of hot water for faster results). I also feel like my hair isn’t breaking anymore from constantly being up.

More!

Coleman Hell | Manic

On the last day of January, on Bell Let’s Talk Day, Coleman Hell released his new single, Manic. It’s a song that he wrote while struggling with his own mental health issues last year. The timing of this release was perfect and this song is definitely very powerful and a good reminder to prioritize your own mental health. Kudos to Coleman for having the strength to share his struggles and to create this very emotionally raw music video. I’ve been playing this song on repeat all month!

Andy Weir | Artemis

Andy Weir Artemis

I’ve been continuing my trend of doing a lot of reading and Artemis by Andy Weir was one of the books I finished this month (Love of Reading recap to follow later on this week) and by far my favourite of the month. I loved the Martian so I’m not surprised that I was so fond of this one. Artemis is about a smuggler who lives in a colony called Artemis on the moon and her attempt at committing the perfect crime to gain the wealth that she has always desired. Though I’m not sure if I enjoyed it as much as the Martian, I still couldn’t put it down.

Star Wars | The Clone Wars (TV Series)

After months and months of watching the Clone Wars on Netflix with my husband, we have finally finished off the series. I can’t tell you enough as a Star Wars fan how much I enjoyed this series. It fills in a lot of gaps left by episode 2 and 3 in the movie series, as well as makes a lot of the characters from those movies more likeable. It develops Anakin Skywalker more as a character, as well as gives you more insight to the Clones and their relationship with the Jedi. If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it! It is a cartoon but, honestly, that gives it an advantage, in my opinion. A lot of the lightsaber battles are more exciting than the were able to pull off in the movies (at least back when 1 to 3 were created) and it actually gives you a lot of battles that you never knew you wanted to see. Though I’m excited to finally move on to watching new series, I do miss it already.

What were you loving in the month of February? Let me know in the comments below!

xoxo,

Robyn

  1. I had a Laura Mercier foundation primer before and it was amazing! But they discontinued it…
I was using the Invisibobbles for ages and recently I picked up the Scünci version on clearance and I actually liked those better. The coils are much tighter and the diameter of the plastic thicker – keeps my hair up better. I can’t believe I just analyzed hair elastics this much… 😆

    • Haha, I never really thought about hair elastics much until I came across Gummiband but, now I don’t think I’ll ever go back to the more traditional style ones. I wear my hair up A LOT (though you never see it here) and they work so well!
