I usually talk about how ‘fast’ a month goes by but was it just me or did January seem particularly long this year? It could have been due to the major cold snap we had for the last couple of weeks at the month that really made it feel long. If I don’t have to see -40 with the windchill on the weather network again for the rest of the winter I’ll be a happy girl! January however was a great month – it was a month of setting goals and working on achieving them. Though I didn’t get as much blogging done as I would have liked to, I did spend the month working on some other goals of mine.
Makeup
Tarte | Tartelette Toasted Eyeshadow Palette
I picked up this palette on sale I think in late November or early December and although I didn’t use it much at first (I didn’t wear a lot of eye makeup around that time for some reason – I think it was mainly laziness) it was my go-to palette this month for a simple everyday look. The eyeshadows blend very nicely and the shimmery shades pack a good amount of pigment making them quick and easy to use. Criteria that I hold dearly on weekday mornings!
Huda Beauty | Amethyst Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette
Who would have guessed that an all purple eyeshadow palette would make it into a favourites post? If you’ve been following Lipstick on the Lake for awhile you probably know that I am obsessed with the colour purple! I was however skeptical as purple eyeshadows can be difficult to formulate but thankfully this palette proved to be great to work with! I posted my New Year’s Eve Makeup Look last month which featured this palette.
Bite Beauty | Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Eggplant
With heavy use of a purple eyeshadow palette comes heavy use of purple lipstick if you are anything like me. I reached for Bite Beauty’s Amuse Bouche Lipstick in the shade Eggplant a LOT last month. Purple eyeshadow look or neutral look… I wore it a lot! I love how flattering it is with my skin tone as well as how comfortable these are to wear.
Skincare
Drunk Elephant | Rise + Glow
I’ve vowed to make skincare more of a priority this year so I picked up this duo of daytime serums from Drunk Elephant as well as the night set that I’ll mention next. This set contains a deluxe sample of their C-Firma Day Serum and their B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum. I’ve been loving mixing these two in the morning as part of my routine. Between adding these to my routine and the nighttime serums I am noticing my skin start to look smoother (my texture is almost all gone!) and more radiant without making my oily skin look greasy.
Drunk Elephant | Night Bright
The nighttime set contains a deluxe sample of Drunk Elephant’s Virgin Marula Oil and their T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Night Serum. The first time I used the Glycolic Night Serum I definitely felt some tingling/burning which is normal but that has dissipated and I don’t feel it at all anymore. I’d say the AHA/BHA blend is definitely a big part in clearing up the texture I had been experiencing.
Bite Beauty | Agave Lip Mask in Maple
I was watching Chelle talk about the Agave Lip Masks in her YouTube video about products she has changed her mind about and she mentioned liking the Maple Agave lip mask more than the original and candy cane ‘flavours’. Until I purchased the trio in the fall I had only tried the original but this inspired me to open up the Maple one and start using it when my full size of the original ran out. I can’t believe it but it actually DOES feel like it works better. My lips are SO much smoother looking and I’ve only been using it since about mid-January when I watched the video.
More!
Yoga With Adriene | Dedicate
I started Adriene’s 2019 30 day yoga challenge, Dedicate, at the beginning of January (and am still working on it, I got sick for about a week in January + go to classes at the gym so I opt not to double-up to extend the challenge) and am loving it! Adding yoga to my daily routine has been great for not only my physical health (hello improved upper body strength!) but also has been wonderful for my mental health! I look forward to these moments on my yoga mat each day!
Simplehuman | Sensor Mirror
My husband bought this mirror for me for Christmas, tired of hearing me complain about the bad lighting in my makeup room and I am in love with it! He picked it out all on his own too! It did take some getting used to as I didn’t use the magnifying side of my old mirror and this one is one-sided so it only has 5x magnification. While at first it was a bit shocking to see my skin that closely with impeccable lighting (this could be why I’ve vowed to change my skincare routine, haha), my makeup application has never been better! It’s a pricy mirror but it has definitely been a game changer for me. I also love that it is cordless, you just recharge it when the battery dies. It took about 5 weeks for me to need to recharge it.
What products were you loving in the month of January? Let me know in the comments below!
xoxo,
Robyn

The little serum sets are really great for trying them out! Reasonably priced and I actually heard it might actually be cheaper per ML of product 🤔
