Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion vs. Morphe Eyelid Primer

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion vs. Morphe Eyelid Primer

When I picked up the Morphe Eyelid Primer last month from the Morphe Store I knew I had to compare it to my long-time favourite eyeshadow primer: Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion. I’ve tried many other eyeshadow primers and none have compared so it only seemed natural to put them on side-by-side and see which one came out ahead.

Applicator

The first main difference between the two products is the applicator. While the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion at one point also had a needle-nose squeeze tube, they added a doe-foot applicator a few years ago. To be honest, the doe-foot applicator doesn’t do much for me, you still have to squeeze the tube to get the product out. Either way I end up using my fingers to blend it in. So in this category there really isn’t a clear winner because I am indifferent.

Price

The Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion contains 10 ml of product and retails for $32 CAD at Sephora for the full size product. The full size lasts me roughly one year.

The Morphe Eyelid Primer contains 9 ml of product and retails for $13.50 CAD on the Canadian Morphe Website.

Clearly the Morphe Eyelid Primer wins this category as it is significantly less expensive and contains nearly the same amount of product.

Performance

I wore both primers (one on each eye) for a full day where I ran errands, spent time outside on a hot day and worked out.

As usual, both eyes look nearly the same at the start and end of the day. I believe thee photos were taken around 10 hours apart.

While my makeup looks slightly darker in the second photo I think that is just the lighting. Again, noth eyes look pretty similar and the photos were taken 10 hours part. I’m surprised, usually when I try new primers they always end up a creasy, oily mess mid-day! I’m quite surprised to see the performance is on par with my tried and true favourite.

Overall

Overall, while I’m indifferent on the applicators and the performance is pretty similar, the price difference is what really gets me. I am shocked that the Morphe Eyelid Primer, which is less than half the cost of the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion, works just as well! Both primers felt similar to work over top of, they both were slightly sticky and really grabbed onto the eyeshadow. I normally set it with a translucent powder to make blending easier. The products had very similar textures. I think the Morphe Eyelid Primer is the definite winner and I look forward to shelling out less money when it comes time to restock!

    • They definitely make great products for the price they sell them at! I’m surprised I’ve loved this one so much considering I am such a die hard UD primer potion girl!
