The days are getting shorter and the air is getting crisper which means fall (though not officially here) is well underway. Though I don’t really believe in saving makeup for particular seasons I do find my patterns shift as the seasons progress. Mainly I find myself going from my minimal summer routine to one that is more involved and often either warm toned or vampy. I’m excited for this shift as I find fall really represents my favourite time of the year makeup and fashion wise so I thought I’d share with you five lipsticks that I think I’ll have in heavy rotation this fall!
Though the calendar says it’s spring, we still have quite a bit of snow in Thunder Bay as well as some chilly mornings. Hi guys! With spring making it’s way into Thunder Bay, I’ve been really inspired to start blogging about my favourite products for the season. Since spring is pretty much a gateway to summer, I start busting out the bright colours on a regular basis. I don’t really believe in seasonal colours, but I think the nicer weather makes me feel more bright and cheery and then this in turn is reflected in my overall style.
I’ve had Angela for a couple of years now and I always seem to bust her out when spring starts up. The pink orchid shade really reminds me of fresh flowers starting to bloom! Though we don’t have a lot of that going on right now in Thunder Bay (thank you epic April ice storm), I’m hopeful we will start seeing some blossoms soon! Hi guys! While I normally love rocking a bold, bright lip, lately I’ve found myself drawn to neutrals so I thought I’d take a peak through my collection and share with you the five that I have been wearing the most. To be honest, they are probably all similar in shade, but, that’s okay! I love them all for different reasons.
To start off this top 5 neutral lipsticks post, I want to talk about my beloved and now discontinued Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Fiend. This was the second Urban Decay lipstick I ever purchased when my world opened up to high end makeup and it holds a close place in my heart. Hi guys! I can’t believe it’s this time of year already. As I write this, I can see the snow banks outside my house. So, in an attempt to try to be festive, I thought I’d share some of my favourite go-to holiday lipsticks. When those inevitable holiday parties and dinners come around, you can bet I’ll be wearing one of these!
I am not a gloss person, but the holiday season tends to be a glossy, glittery and shiny time of the year. As far as glosses go, the NYX Butter Glosses are great because they pack on sheer to medium coverage and they don’t feel sticky. The shade Red Velvet is a beautiful cherry red and thus earns it’s spot in my go-to holiday lipsticks.
Liquid lipsticks are everything to me so, it should be no surprise that I’ve got Too Faced Lady Balls on my list of top holiday lipsticks. I gave this lipstick a pretty rave review so it’s also just a favourite in general. Continue reading
Hi guys! It’s been awhile since I’ve done a top 5, the last one I did was for summer lipsticks. With the fall season looming I thought it would be fun to look at my top 5 most reached-for fall lipsticks. When the nights start getting cooler and the leaves start changing colours I am all about browns and burgundy shades on my lips. It isn’t even fall yet and I’m excited to start wearing these shades more!
This shade is definitely the boldest of the bunch. It looks very, very dark on the lips on me but I love it. I did a look using it last fall so you can see what it looks like on me here. I like it best with very simple, neutral makeup so that it stands out but the look as a whole isn’t over the top. Colourpop describes this shade as a muted grey-taupe and I think that is a very accurate description. I find that this shade wears well and is comfortable on the lips. If you are sensitive to liquid lipsticks and have issues with dry lips you may want to find a similar shade in a traditional lipstick formula.
Studded Kiss is a dark oxblood shade. Oxblood sounds like a gross name for a colour, but I am obsessed with that shade in the fall. I have oxblood pants that I’m just dying to start wearing when it gets cool enough to wear full length pants! Again this is a matte shade, which isn’t surprising because I love matte lipsticks. I mostly pair this with neutral/brown looks. For the most part with fall I usually tone down the eye makeup and let deep lipstick shades do the talking.
I re-discovered this lipstick in my collection. I’m not sure when I got it, I don’t think it is available anymore but it is a colour that I love for fall. It is a beautiful burgundy shade. Pure Burgundy is a bit deeper than MAC’s Studded Kiss so it adds a bit more drama to a look.
1993 has only recently come into my life but I know it will be a fall staple. It’s a medium brown shade that is really quite wearable and versatile if you like brown lipsticks. It is a comfort matte shade so although it is a matte lipstick, it does not feel drying on the lips.
I thought that Grunge from Colourpop was no longer available since it was part of their 90’s collection last fall but I just checked and it is still on their website! They describe this shade as a cool-toned plum brown. Similar to my other choices, this is also a matte lipstick. Colourpop makes great matte Lippie Stix, they are quite comfortable to wear. In my mind Grunge and 1993 were similar, but now seeing them swatched side-by-side they really are quite different. Beside 1993, you really can see the plum in Grunge. It’s a beautiful shade and I’m so happy to see that it is still available.

Hi guys! I don’t really follow rules when it comes to makeup so I wear most lip colours all year round. However, I do tend to reach for certain colours depending on the season. So when the weather warms up, I find myself automatically reaching for bright lip colours. So, I thought it would be fun to share with you my favourite five lip colours for the summer!

NARS | Audacious Lipstick in Juliette
A beautiful light pinky coral lipstick that from the moment I laid eyes on it screamed “summer staple”. For a moment I worried it would be too orange for my fair skin, but I like the way it looks on me. It’s not too bold so it could be worn with an everyday look. Also, the NARS Audacious formula is by far one of my favourite lipstick formulas.
Urban Decay | Revolution Lipstick in Bang
This lipstick recently came into my life and was another that I was unsure how I would feel about. I got it on sale though when the Revolution Lipsticks were discontinued so I didn’t have much to lose. This lipstick is amazing. It’s a beautiful bold bright orange red. Hi guys! Today I thought I would share with you what I consider to be my top 5 nail polishes. It was really hard narrowing it down to just 5 (I won’t even get into how many I own), but here we are! As you can tell, I favour cream finishes. I find they wear the best, are the easiest to remove and are the most versatile. You can always add a glitter polish accent to sparkle up a polish with a cream finish.
My top 5 (in no particular order):
OPI Lincoln Park After Dark
This has been a long time favourite of mine. It is a dark, almost black, purple shade. Although it is quite dark, I find it is very elegant. It looks particularly best on short/medium length nails.
Zoya Robyn
Of course a polish called ‘Robyn’ would be in my top 5. This is a gorgeous, wearable blue shade. Growing up, I never was able to buy personalized items at stores (ie. keychains, mugs, etc) because Robyn would always be spelt with an ‘i’ instead of a ‘y’. When I saw this polish, nostalgia hit and I had to have it since they spelt Robyn the same way as my name is. Also, it applies like butter and you can almost get away with one coat.
OPI Hey Baby
This is a newer polish to my collection, but the formula and the colour caught my attention. This is such a smooth colour to apply, and the magenta/pink shade is stunning.
OPI Roadhouse Blues
I don’t think OPI makes this colour anymore, which is a shame, because this is a beautiful deep blue. It looks almost black in the photo, and in some lights it does look like that, but there is more blue to it than my photo captured. It is a great colour for fall and again, looks best on short/medium nails.
OPI Polka.com
I had to include a glitter polish in my top 5, it just wouldn’t be complete without one. This one is one of my favourite glitters as it includes all of my favourite colours in one bottle. It has large sized purple, pink and light blue glitter pieces, as well as some tiny sparkles. I love adding it as an accent on almost any manicure. It also applies very nicely. I find that a lot of glitters with large pieces don’t apply evenly (you never end up with many of the larger pieces) but this one doesn’t seem to have that problem.
All of my swatches are two coats. I did not use a base or top coat for the photos. As you can tell from my list, I do tend to favour OPI polishes. I find they have excellent wear-time and almost never let me down. Most of my collection is OPI for that reason.
