Friday Feels

Happy Friday! Who else is ready for the weekend? I was actually off work today but it still felt like a long week. I’m looking forward to catching up on some zzz’s this weekend.

Current Happenings

Since today is Black Friday I woke up early and did some light shopping with the husband today. I ended up scoring a Christmas tree at Michael’s. They had a pre-lit 7.5 foot tree as one of their door busters and my old tree needed replacing so we scooped that up! I also found some ornaments on sale! It was a great day out! I ended up decorating the tree when I got home and really got into the Christmas spirit! I’m usually pretty indifferent about Christmas but maybe being in the new house has changed how I feel about it. Continue reading

Friday Feels

TGIF! Though it was a short week for me it still feels like it has been a long one. I would say I am looking forward to a quiet weekend but it is going to be a busy one. But that’s okay, there are plenty of other weekends to do nothing.

Current Happenings

I went to see Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald last night, I couldn’t wait and had to see it opening night. I really enjoyed it! I felt like it tied even better into the Harry Potter story that I already know and love. Supposedly it is getting mixed reviews but I quite enjoyed it! Continue reading

Friday Feels

It’s been almost a year since my last Friday Feels post but I was really feeling bring it back this week because I feel like I haven’t just chit-chatted on the blog for awhile. So let’s do just that!

Current Happenings

It was my birthday this past Tuesday so I’m officially the big 2-9! The day actually felt just… normal, is that what getting older feels like? I enjoyed a nice lunch with my co-workers, dinner with my husband and then we went to HomeSense and picked up a couple of things for the new house.

What Makeup & This Blog Mean to Me

blogging

To close off my Sunday’s of lifestyle posts for NaBloPoMo, I wanted to post something that has been in my drafts for eons and I’ve been making edits to for years. It’s something that is always on my mind and it is what makeup and this blog means to me.

I’ve had this blog for a bit over two years now and I can honestly say I am proud of it and I love working on it. I put my heart and soul in it. This is the place where I am openly talk about my passion about beauty products. This is a place that I can share my knowledge with other people who share my passion about beauty products and I’ve virtually met a lot of incredible people through. Continue reading

Friday Feels

Friday Feels

Completely inspired by Pretty Ruff Life’s This and That Fridays. I thought it would be fun to try something similar today. I’m not sure yet if I’ll do these as a weekly series or maybe monthly… we’ll see how it fits into my blogging schedule! I’ve got lots that I’m testing and will be ready to post about soon!

Current Happenings

If you can believe it, I am STILL sick, but I’m feeling well enough to be functional again so that’s a major plus! Despite being sick though, I have been able to keep up with the National Blog Posting Month Challenge (30 days of posts) so I’m pretty impressed with myself. After a somewhat inconsistent blogging year, it feels good to be able go get this much content out in so little time. I’m really proud of what I’ve accomplished so far. Shout out to all the other Canadian Beauty Bloggers who are on the NaBloPoMo adventure as well!

Get To Know Me

Get to know me

I’ve seen the Get To Know Me Tag Floating around but, 30 questions seemed like a bit much so I thought I’d choose 7 of the questions to answer for you guys today.

Cats or Dogs?

Dogs for sure! I have two dogs – Max (shih tzu/chihuahua/wheaten terrier mix) and Dex (shih tzu/poodle mix)

Funniest moment throughout School?

In drama class my teacher was doing SFX makeup on us, like fake wounds and so on. I had never had that done before but when I looked down at my arm and saw the fake axe wound I started getting really dizzy and basically passed out. I didn’t know I was squeamish until that moment! Continue reading

New Year, New Goals: 2017

New Year New Goals

Hi guys! New year, new goals! I try to set some goals at the beginning of each year to make each one the most successful yet. 2016 was a year where I didn’t really meet as many of my goals as I would have liked to, but it was a personally very stressful year. I’m not sad to see it go, but I am optimistic for 2017. Let’s take a look at some of the goals that I am setting for myself this year.

Get Outside My Comfort Zone

This year, I want to try new makeup styles that challenge my skill level and are outside of my comfort zone. Though I enjoy the way I currently do my makeup, I want to start to add in new techniques and colours to see where that will take me.

Revive My YouTube Channel

My YouTube channel that I started last January went on a bit of an early hiatus. The reason for this was two-fold. First, my equipment set up, or lack there of, made the times I could film very limited. I needed the perfect amount of daylight and my husband around to run the camera for me so that I was centred. Each video was done blind, meaning, I couldn’t see myself to know if I was still in frame. This made for some frustrating editing sessions. Luckily, my new camera that I got for Christmas and the ring light that I’ll be setting up shortly will solve both of these issues. Secondly, with everything that went on in 2016, I just didn’t have the time to utilize the daylight that I did have. Once I have everything set up, keep your eye out for new videos!

Read More Books

In 2016 I set a goal to read a minimum of two books a month. For the most part, I was successful at this, there was only a few months that I fell short. I’d like to read three books a month (or the page equivalent of 3, some books are longer than others). Continue reading

November Happiness Highlights

happiness-highlights

Hi guys! I saw Happiness Highlights on two blogs that I read regularly, Stash Matters and Polished and Inspired and I loved the idea so much, I had to hop on the bandwagon too! Since I knew November was going to be an eventful month I thought it would be the perfect one to try this out with! My everyday life is pretty quiet, but through this task, I really thought long and hard about finding the happiness each day.

Tuesday, November 1

caribou-crab-cakes

My husband got some really great work-related news, so we went out to the Caribou for dinner to celebrate! AND crab cakes were back on the menu and they were delicious! They did change them up a bit, they used to come with a spicy sauce, they have changed it up and have done a dill pickle tartare. I really enjoyed them, but I do still miss and prefer the original.

Wednesday, November 2

I finished reading I Let You Go by Clare Mackintosh! I haven’t been reading as much as I usually do so finishing this gave me a sense of accomplishment… plus it was a good read!

Thursday, November 3

cindy-loo-hoos

Went out for lunch with a co-worker to Cindy Loohoo’s as an early birthday outing! Their soup of the week was borscht and it was soooo good!

Friday, November 4

Finished watching Stranger Things with my husband, we really enjoyed it! Can’t wait for season two.

Saturday, November 5

I can’t pick just one so I’m just going to recap my day… Went out for brunch with my husband and I tried the Brunch Poutine from Daytona’s. It was good but I still miss Made Fresh and their Breakfast Poutine (RIP 😢).

Then I went to watch my little brother play hockey and his team won! After that I went for dinner with my family to Chinese Express as an early birthday dinner. My sister spoiled me with some new makeup and the rest of my family spoiled me with a Sephora e-gift card so I partook in some VIB sale haulage.

Then finally, I went out with a few of my friends to celebrate my last moments of 26 and the first moments of 27! We ate some delicious wings and had a great time. Continue reading

The Adult Tag

Adult Tag

Hi guys! I saw the Adult Tag over on Helpless While Drying quite some time ago and instantly knew I had to do this tag at some point. I’ve had the link to her post sitting in my drafts for awhile so tonight I thought it was finally time to take a crack at these questions! Rachael of Helpless While Drying was also recently on the My Lip Addiction Beauty Podcast! So, if you would like to check out her episode (and I do recommend it!) you can find all the links here!

1 – How old are you and where do you live?

I am 26 (but very close to 27) and I live in Thunder Bay, Ontario!

2 – Where did you expect to be by this age?

I think I’m pretty much where I hoped I would be… married, house, car, surrounded by pets and working a full-time day job! Career-wise I guess I’m not where I thought I would be but, life happens and you roll with it. I’m in a field I never really thought about at all when I was younger so it’s not really a bad thing.

3 – Are you on track to where you want to be now?

I think so! I feel like goals change and adapt over time so it is so hard to say “I’m on track”. But, I’m happy and I don’t feel like I am missing anything in my life.

4 – What piece of advice do you wish people told you when you were young?

Hmm… that’s a good question! I can’t think of any advice that I wish I got earlier…

5 – What advice would you give to younger people now?

Do what makes you happy and don’t live your life based on what other people want or expect.

6 – Do you still suffer from FOMO?

Not really. I had to look up what FOMO means so I feel super old. Anyways, I’m pretty happy being a hermit to be honest, haha… Not that I don’t enjoy seeing my friends though. I definitely try to make an effort to go out and see them, but I don’t feel like I need to be out every weekend. I’m comfortable staying in if that’s what I feel like doing!

7 – What is your opinion on living at home vs moving out in your 20’s?

I don’t really have an opinion on it, I feel like people should do what is right for them. If you’re financially able to move out in your 20’s, go for it! If moving out will financially cripple you, don’t. I moved out when I was 19 and it thankfully worked out pretty great!

8 – If you could change something in your adult life right now then what would it be?

Hmm… I like my job, but it feels like a job so I count down to weekends and holidays. I would love to be doing something that is more centred around my hobbies/interests that doesn’t feel as much work. But, I’m comfortable where I am so I’m not really itching to leave either.

9 – Have you had any sudden realisations about life/relationships/friendships since hitting your 20s?

The older I get the more I value my close friendships. You start to realize that life isn’t about having the most friends, it’s about having a handful of super amazing close friends. People drift away, that’s just life. You really do learn who your real friends are though!

10 – Do you feel like an adult?

Yes and no. When I’m working my 9 to 5 job, taking care of my pets and paying bills, I sure do feel like an adult! However, when I’m driving around the city with my husband playing Pokemon Go with my husband as we track where the good Pokemon are, I question how much of an adult I really am… haha! But I wouldn’t change a thing.

I’m not going to tag anyone specific to participate in this fun tag, but if you do it, please leave me your links because I would love to read your answers!!

xoxo,

Robyn
