Wow I can’t believe how long it has been since I last wrote a blog post. I’ve missed you guys! How was your summer? I can’t believe how quickly that flew by as well. I had a super, super, super crazy busy summer so that was why I had to be so absent here. But, things are settling down (for now) so I am going to try to get back into the swing of things. With that said, I didn’t post monthly favourites for June, July or August! To be honest… I was living a very minimalistic makeup/haircare/skincare life so I don’t have many products to talk about but I didn’t want to skip this all together so let’s chat about the products that have been constants in my life over the past few months, shall we? Too Faced
Too Faced Primed & Peachy Cooling Matte Perfecting Primer
I’ve been using the Too Faced Primed & Peachy Cooling Matte Perfecting Primer for a few months now – I picked it up during the fall Sephora VIB Rouge Sale and I’ve mentioned it in a few posts since then. I’ve never really dedicated a full post to it but, though I really enjoy using it, I wanted to see if I could actually see a difference in my foundation performance. So, during an average work day I decided to use it on only half of my face and photograph it throughout the day. So, let’s find out if it actually made a difference, or if I just convinced myself I was seeing one this whole time!
Some background about my skin, if you’re a longtime follower of Lipstick on the Lake, this is just a repeat message, but my skin definitely airs on the oily side. I tend to wear mattifying products whenever possible to attempt to keep the oil at bay. I usually end up shiny by the end of the day regardless. For this test I wore the L’Oreal Pro-Matte Foundation. Too Faced | Most & Least Used Products
Since Too Faced is the Canadian Beauty Bloggers’ Brand of the Month for March I thought it would be fitting to go through my collection of Too Faced products and talk about my most and least used products. Too Faced was created in the 90’s, inspired by a love of Paris, girliness and the transformative power of makeup. They are a cruelty-free brand that seems to be best known for their cutesy and unique packaging, as well as the quality products inside.
Most Used
Chocolate Bar Palette
I believe the Chocolate Bar Palette was my first Too Faced purchase and is definitely one of my most used products from them. It’s a great neutral palette that can be used for both toned down and dramatic makeup looks. I wouldn’t say it’s my most used neutral palette but I do dig it out quite often. Most of the shadows perform quite well and who doesn’t love a palette that smells like delicious chocolate? Continue reading
Best of 2017: The Game Changers
I always find end of year favourites to be such a challenge. With so many products to choose from it’s hard to come up with a concise list that doesn’t miss anything. In keeping with how I did my best of 2016 post, I’m going to stick to what I considered to be game changers. These are products that I tried for the first time this year and loved enough to consider them “game changing”. Continue reading
Holiday Makeup: Simple Yet Festive
I feel like I’m way behind on my usual holiday makeup looks for the Christmas season but the time has just been flying by. With how accelerated time feels this may end up being my only holiday look for this season, but we’ll see! I’m trying to cram in as much as I can before going out of town this weekend between trying to see all my loved ones and getting ready to go. This holiday look isn’t anything dramatic or bold, but is a look that is easy to pull together. I’ve done a gold/neutral eye paired with a merlot red lipstick. I think this is a stunning combination! For my eye makeup I’ve busted out my tried and true Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette.
Too Faced Just Peachy Mattes
Hi guys! Today I’ve got a post that I’ve been excited to post for awhile as I have been absolutely loving the Too Faced Just Peachy Mattes Palette. First of all, it smells DELICIOUS, and secondly, it is full of pigmented and highly blendable peach toned eye shadows. At first, I didn’t think I needed this palette as I am seldom drawn to all-matte eye shadow palettes but after seeing a lot of amazing looks using this on other blogs and instagram my attitude changed. Thus, I hauled this in September and have no regrets. In fact, it became an instant favourite!
The Too Faced Just Peachy Palette contains twelve shades – 11 mattes and one snuck in pearly shade. It contains both neutrals, including a few great transition and crease shades, some pops of bright colour and some deeper shades. Basically, it has many bases covered in a relatively small palette. I think it would be great for travel and am already planning on bringing it with me to Paris in December. Continue reading
August & September Favourites: Makeup, Skincare & More!
Hi guys! I didn’t post my favourites for August (to be honest it was a bit difficult given my VERY minimalist summer) so I thought it would be more valuable to add them in with September so here we are! Now that the weather has been cooling down, and I’m not spending my weekends out at the lake, makeup has become more of a part of my routine again. Which, to be honest, I did miss it! So, let’s take a peak at what I’ve been loving lately!

Makeup Revolution | The Matte Blush in Beloved
Makeup Revolution’s the Matte Blush in the shade Beloved has been my constant go-to every day blush for the past 2.5 months. Basically, ever since I hauled in from Ulta in July it has rocked my world. It’s a very light coral nude shade and just something about it gives my face a beautiful flushed glow. I can’t get enough of it. Continue reading
Sephora 101: Welcoming Sephora to Thunder Bay
Hi guys! Though many of you are likely well-acquainted with Sephora, I’m happy to report that Thunder Bay’s very own Sephora store is opening later on this week! I thought with that in mind it would be fun to go over some products that I absolutely adore and consider staples in my makeup collection and add in a few tips. So while this post reads more like a guide to Sephora, even seasoned shoppers may find a product or two worth checking out!
Sephora Must-Haves
Urban Decay | Vice Lipstick
I have a pretty severe love for Urban Decay but their gigantic range of lipstick is truly a must. With several different formulas ranging from sheer to mega-matte and everything in-between, there is truly something for everyone. My personal favourite is the Comfort Matte formula as it is long-wearing, and as the name suggests, comfortable on the lips. You can find a full review I did on that formula here! Some of my favourite shades include: 1993, Native & Trance. Continue reading
MOTD: Spring & Summer Picks
Hi guys! It’s been awhile since I’ve done a MOTD post and I thought it would be fun to showcase some of my picks from last week’s Top 5: Spring & Summer Picks post! I had meant to do this look over the weekend, however, I had one of those barely leave the house/minimal makeup weekends. I think we all need a few of those! It was very relaxing! Anyways, I was able to make time for a mini photoshoot before work so here we go!
Top 5: Spring & Summer Picks
Hi guys! With spring making it’s way into Thunder Bay, I’ve been really inspired to start blogging about my favourite products for the season. Since spring is pretty much a gateway to summer, I start busting out the bright colours on a regular basis. I don’t really believe in seasonal colours, but I think the nicer weather makes me feel more bright and cheery and then this in turn is reflected in my overall style.
Nars | Audacious Lipstick in Angela
I’ve had Angela for a couple of years now and I always seem to bust her out when spring starts up. The pink orchid shade really reminds me of fresh flowers starting to bloom! Though we don’t have a lot of that going on right now in Thunder Bay (thank you epic April ice storm), I’m hopeful we will start seeing some blossoms soon! The Audacious Lipstick formula pigmented demi-matte formula that I find wears really well on the lips. Continue reading
