Behind the Scenes Tag

Behind-the-Scenes-Tag.jpg

Hi guys! I recently found this tag over on Up the Roller Coaster and I found it super informative so I thought I would give it a go! It was intended to be about filming videos but when she wrote her post she adapted the questions to make them about blogging. I’ve done something similar and have adapted the questions to include blogging as that is my primary media but I mention filming as well. I’ve left the questions unaltered at the bottom as well though.

Tag Questions:

1) What camera do you use?

Panasonic Lumix ZS30 – it looks like a simple point and shoot and is simple like one, but the quality of photos it takes wonderful photos and video! I do want to upgrade at some point though, not being able to see myself as I film is a huge challenge!

2) What editing system do you use?

I’m trying to learn Adobe Photoshop for editing my blog photos. I typically don’t alter them much though. For basic edits like cropping I use the Photos program my Mac came with.

3) Do you use artificial or natural lighting?

Natural lighting!

4) What is the top item on your filming wish list?

A new camera and lighting!

5) What is your favourite day in the week to write?

Usually the weekend but I write in bits and pieces throughout the week.

6) Do you plan your posts. If so, how?

I try to plan as best I can and I go through periods of being really good at this and periods where I’m really bad at this. If I plan ahead then I have a calendar on my computer that I use and schedule my posts. Other times… I’m writing the night before or the day of a post and I don’t like doing that if I can avoid it.

7) How long does it take you to write a post?

Including taking photos, minimally editing them and writing the post… anywhere from thirty minutes to an hour and a half. If I’m doing a makeup look then add in another 20 minutes. If I’m filming a video to add to my post, that’s probably an hour and a half or more on it’s own.

8) How many hours do you spend editing an average post?

I should spend more time editing posts than I do. I typically write my post, read it over and then schedule it. I’ll usually read it again the night before it goes live to see if I notice anything I want to correct or re-work. Probably 15 minutes tops.

For videos, it takes about anywhere between 1-3 hours to edit. Tutorials take the longest as for efficiency I speed up/cut out parts and then I do a voiceover. Videos like favourites and Ipsy Glam Bag overviews don’t take nearly as long so long as I don’t have to edit out much.

9) Favourite types of posts to write?

I love writing round-ups, makeup looks and hauls! I enjoy writing round-ups because it usually involves swatching a bunch of different brands in a particular category (type of item, colour, etc) and doing some comparison/overview.

I enjoy makeup looks because I do try to be a bit more creative than my everyday look if I’ve planned something (usually not a makeup of the day unless I had an idea when getting ready).

Hauls are also fun because usually I’m so excited when I buy makeup that I have to photograph everything and swatch right away! I always photograph everything right away because I usually take my photos before even touching the product to ensure it’s in pristine condition!

10) Do you people at work know about your blog/channel?

For the most part, yes. The ones I’m closest to hear about it more. I don’t generally advertise it but I don’t keep it secret either.

11) What is your process of thinking of a blog/video idea?

Sometimes I have a notebook with various things I want to write about or film. If  I’m on my computer then I will start draft posts while the idea is fresh. They are usually very rough and either include point form notes or even could just be a working title.

12) Do you feel awkward filming in front of other people or in public?

Absolutely. I make my husband leave the room if I have to do any talking in front of the camera, haha! I don’t mind filming tutorials because I do voice-overs for those so I’m generally silent, but for intros or for videos I’m talking through I’m not comfortable enough to do that when he’s in the room.

13) Do you and your Youtube/blog friends plan out videos/blog posts together?

At this time, no, but I would like to get into collaborating more and am open to it!

14) What is your subscriber goal by the end of the year?

I don’t think I have an actual goal in mind, I really enjoy hitting mile stones but I’m just thankful that anyone reads my blog! It makes me so happy to see that people are reading and taking the time to comment πŸ™‚ I would like to increase my subscribers/views over on YouTube but that is because it takes a lot more man-power and time to do videos, but regardless of views and subs, I enjoy it so I’ll keep doing it!

15) Who do you tag to do this tag next?

Since it’s Canada Day, I’ll tag some of my favourite Canadian ladies Stash Matters (have I found a tag you haven’t done yet?!), Classic MaggieA Maple Girl and Cat!

  1. You’re right, I haven’t done this tag! And I love behind the scenes stuff, so it was interesting to read your responses. πŸ™‚
Nobody at work knows about my blog! Sometimes I feel like spilling the beans but I’d rather keep the 2 worlds separate. My non-work friends do know about my blog though. πŸ™‚
    I’ll definitely do this tag!
    Happy Canada Day! ❀
