100 Movie Challenge

100 Movie Challenge

Last year I was inspired by Rachel of Helpless Whilst Drying who did a 100 Movie Challenge in 2016. I loved this idea and thought it would be something fun to do with my husband and lightly incorporate him into the blog. 100 movies sounded totally do-able, that’s basically 2 per week with a little bit of wiggle room. However, as you will see, we barely made it half way to our goal in 2017. I think this mostly has to do with how many television/Netflix series we watched (hello Stranger Things, Iron Fist, the Defenders, & Clone Wars to name a few). If you were to count in each individual episode of a television show we watched, we would have definitely made it. However, we did watch quite a few movies so let’s take a look of what we did watch!

3 Standout Movies

Robyn:

  1. Logan | A wonderful way to wrap up Hugh Jackman’s portrayal of Wolverine. I don’t think there was anything about this movie that I didn’t like.
  2. Wonder Woman | I went into this movie with the lowest of expectations given the last few movies in the DC Cinematic Universe but this movie blew me away. Wonder Woman proved why she was the standout character in Batman v. Superman.
  3. The F Word | Harry Potter and Kylo Ren, nuff said. Kidding, this Canadian rom-com was both clever and funny. I highly recommend it if you haven’t seen it!

The Husband:

  1. The Martian | I thought it was a surprisingly funny and clever movie. Matt Damon was perfect for this role
  2. Guardian’s of the Galaxy, Volume 2 | Good marvel movie, not as good as the first but it lived up to my expectations.
  3. Wonder Woman | One of my favourite DC movies of the past few years, everything was well done aside from the final battle.

Biggest Disappointment

Our biggest disappointment had to be Lego Batman we both agreed on this one. The trailers looked so funny and the original Lego Movie was great, but this just didn’t live up to the hype. I remember us struggling to make it through this mediocre at best movie.

While we didn’t make it to our goal, I think I am going to try again in 2017! Though instead of trying to hit 100 movies, I might treat it more like a movie round-up because I did enjoy keeping track of what we watched and then going over the list to decide what the stand-outs and disappointing movies were. I would like to see if I actually can reach 100 though, so we will see!

Do you have any movie recommendations? Let me know in the comments down below!

xoxo,

Robyn

  1. You did good!
I also wasn’t a huge fan of Lego Batman, although I didn’t love the OG that much either, but it was definitely better and more original than the Batman one, I felt like I was watching clips from the video game!
I actually didn’t like Wonder Woman *eek!* I thought the storyline was too predictable!

    • Totally!

And yeah I could see that with Wonder Woman, I think I was so impressed because I had the bar set dangerously low by Batman V. Superman 😂

  2. 2 movies a week is LOT! We only managed to watch 30 (new) movies last year. We didn’t count rewatches. I think you did extremely well! 🙂
I too, LOVED Logan! It was probably my favourite movie that I saw in the theater last year.
Haha, my SO loves the Martian. He has rewatched it no less than 20 times…
Aww I think Lego Batman was ok – I do still prefer the original Lego movie too.

I echo the recommendation of Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. We just watched it last week and can’t rave about it enough. One of the few movies that I wouldn’t change a thing. It’s a serious subject matter but a bit quirky like the movie Fargo.
Other recommendations: Baby Driver and Blade Runner 2049.

    • Yeah 2 movies a week is definitely a big undertaking for sure! If we didn’t watch television series together though we totally could have done it. I wasn’t going to count rewatches originally but I found that some of them it had been so long since I watched it the first time it’s like watching it all over again for the first time.

I’m definitely going to check out Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri! And baby driver and blade runner 2049 are definitely on our to-watch list as well!

  3. What a cool idea! Hubby and I were talking the other day about how we are so not into movies anymore – we’re always sucked into tv shows and series.

Out of the few movies we did watch this year, I have to say Wonder Woman was definitely my favourite – Gal Gadot is amazing!

    • Yesss, we are the same way with tv shoes and series. It’s nice to just throw something on and not be committed to a 3 hour movie if you don’t want to be stuck there. I’ve only watched… one movie I think so far this year. Not off to a great start so far!
