Mani Monday

Hi guys! I’m back with another Mani Monday! I’ve taken a few weeks off from the Mani Monday series, I just haven’t had time to paint my nails lately. I had a Christmas party to attend last Saturday and I was wearing red so I thought it would be nice to do red nails as well. I’m not usually matchy-matchy but I hadn’t worn this polish in awhile so I went for it. I also didn’t have much time and I knew this polish would apply well with just two thin coats. Mani Monday

Hi guys! Today’s manicure is kind of a random one. I didn’t really know what I was doing when I did it, I just started playing and went with it. All I knew was that I wanted to combine the soft pink with teal. I’m undecided if I actually like the results, but it was fun to sit down, clear my head and just play with polish. I haven’t done the in awhile.

Mani Monday

Hi guys! I’m back with another Mani Monday! I’ve been sick so I’ve been neglecting my nails but I finally have them painted again and it makes me so happy! I dislike my nails when they are left natural, it just looks wrong to me. They are seldom left natural, but my priority lately has been napping.

I went to see the new James Bond movie last week which reminded me of the OPI Skyfall collection from 2012. My favourite shade from the collection is the title shade, Skyfall which is a gorgeous oxblood cream shade. Am I the only person who goes to see James Bond and then ends up thinking about what colour I need to paint my nails?

Mani Monday

Hi guys! I’ve got another Mani Monday to share with you today. I shortened my nails this weekend so I wanted to do something dark on my nails. I think dark colours look so flattering on shorter nails, it is one of my favourite looks. I chose a lighter black shade that has a touch of shimmer to it, and added a silver glitter polish as an accent. These two polishes together is one of my favourite combinations.

Products Used:

OPI Chip Skip
OPI Nail Envy Maintenance (1 coat)
OPI Black Satin (2 coats)
OPI Pirouette My Whistle (2 coats on ring finger)
Glisten & Glow HK Girl Fast Drying & Super Shiny Top Coat (as always!)

I don’t think either of these polishes are available anymore, but there is usually a similar glitter polish in other collections at least once a year. If you can get your hands on these polishes though, they are great. They are both very easy to work with.

What do you have on your nails today? Let me know in the comments down below!

Top 5: Nail Polishes

P1010303

Hi guys! Today I thought I would share with you what I consider to be my top 5 nail polishes. It was really hard narrowing it down to just 5 (I won’t even get into how many I own), but here we are! As you can tell, I favour cream finishes. I find they wear the best, are the easiest to remove and are the most versatile. You can always add a glitter polish accent to sparkle up a polish with a cream finish.

My top 5 (in no particular order):

P1010309

OPI Lincoln Park After Dark
This has been a long time favourite of mine. It is a dark, almost black, purple shade. Although it is quite dark, I find it is very elegant. It looks particularly best on short/medium length nails.

Zoya Robyn
Of course a polish called ‘Robyn’ would be in my top 5. This is a gorgeous, wearable blue shade. Growing up, I never was able to buy personalized items at stores (ie. keychains, mugs, etc) because Robyn would always be spelt with an ‘i’ instead of a ‘y’. When I saw this polish, nostalgia hit and I had to have it since they spelt Robyn the same way as my name is. Also, it applies like butter and you can almost get away with one coat.

OPI Hey Baby
This is a newer polish to my collection, but the formula and the colour caught my attention. This is such a smooth colour to apply, and the magenta/pink shade is stunning.

OPI Roadhouse Blues
I don’t think OPI makes this colour anymore, which is a shame, because this is a beautiful deep blue. It looks almost black in the photo, and in some lights it does look like that, but there is more blue to it than my photo captured. It is a great colour for fall and again, looks best on short/medium nails.

OPI Polka.com
I had to include a glitter polish in my top 5, it just wouldn’t be complete without one. This one is one of my favourite glitters as it includes all of my favourite colours in one bottle. It has large sized purple, pink and light blue glitter pieces, as well as some tiny sparkles. I love adding it as an accent on almost any manicure. It also applies very nicely. I find that a lot of glitters with large pieces don’t apply evenly (you never end up with many of the larger pieces) but this one doesn’t seem to have that problem.

All of my swatches are two coats. I did not use a base or top coat for the photos. As you can tell from my list, I do tend to favour OPI polishes. I find they have excellent wear-time and almost never let me down.  Most of my collection is OPI for that reason.

What are your favourite nail polishes? Let me know in the comments down below!

Mani Monday #6

P1010292

Hi guys! The manicure I am currently sporting is the one that I did for the wedding that I went to on Saturday. To see the rest of the look from that day click here. Since I wore a red dress, I chose silver as it would be fairly neutral but also has a touch of dazzle. I love silver nail polishes, they seem to go with almost anything and they don’t need anything extra to make them sparkle. I was going to do a glitter accent nail but I ended up not liking it so I took it off and left it alone.

Products Used:

OPI Chip Skip
OPI Nail Envy Maintenance (1 coat)
OPI Haven’t the Foggiest (2 coats)
Glisten & Glow HK Girl Fast Drying & Super Shiny Top Coat (as always!)

The formula for Haven’t the Foggiest was quite pigmented. I almost could have gotten away with one coat, but I like doing two to make sure everything is covered. It was a little bit on the watery-side so I tried to use thin and controlled coats to avoid flooding the cuticles.

Mani Monday #5

Hi guys! It seems like I’m in a definite vampy-nails place right now. Just like last week I am rocking another vampy manicure. I actually do love vampy nails all year round, but probably wear them the most during the fall and winter. This manicure combines two of my favourite things, vampy nails and the colour purple, and it is another very fall-appropriate manicure.

Products Used:

OPI Chip Skip
OPI Nail Envy Maintenance (1 coat)
OPI Vampsterdam (2 coats)
Glisten & Glow HK Girl Fast Drying & Super Shiny Top Coat (as always!)

Vamspterdam has a great formula. It applies like butter and isn’t at all patchy. With the addition of HK Girl, my nails were dry and I was able to use my hands (with some limitation) in about 10 minutes. This top coat is seriously amazing.

What is your favourite kind of manicure to wear (ie. brights, glitters, shimmers, nail art, etc)? Let me know in the comments down below!

Mani Monday #4

P1010208

Hi guys! I’m back with another Mani Monday! I’m going to start off by saying this is not my best work. Do you ever have those manicures that just feel doomed from the beginning? You make one mistake and then a series of messes and mistakes ensue. That was today and is why there is nothing fancy about this manicure. It is just a simple vampy red. This is OPI’s Royal Raja Ruby which is one of my favourites for fall. It is a shimmery deep red that changes tone depending on how much light it catches. I love vampy shades on the nails for fall, there is just something that I find comforting about them. Is it just me?

Products Used:

OPI Chip Skip
OPI Nail Envy Maintenance (1 coat)

Glisten & Glow HK Girl Fast Drying & Super Shiny Top Coat (as always!)

Mani Monday #2

Hi guys! Today for Mani Monday I am throwing it back to a manicure that I did last summer and loved. I’m currently testing out a nail product that I will be featuring in an upcoming Mani Monday so I had to rely on an oldie.

This manicure is a nice solid blue with a pink floral and polka dot accent. I love any manicure that involves polka dots as they are so simple to do, but depending on what you do with them, look impressive. Even the flowers are made of dots. I always use a set of dotting tools to do my polka dots, but you could also use a bobby pin if you do not have a set. This is the set that I use.

2014-06-23 19.29.22 (2)

For this manicure I used:

OPI Chip Skip
OPI Nail Envy Maintenance (1 coat)
Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear in Pacific Blue (the original formula)
OPI Live.Love.Carnival (flowers and polka dots)
OPI Banana Bandanna (centre of flowers)
Cult Nails Wicked Fast Top Coat (since Cult Nails is no longer is in business, Glisten & Glow HK Girl Fast Drying & Super Shiny Top Coat is a great alternative)

The original Pacific Blue from Sally Hansen is gorgeous. It didn’t have the best wear-time but it was easy to apply. It’s a shame they changed the formula. If you can get your hands on the original, it is worth picking up!
