A Week of Peanut Butter & Jelly

Too-Faced-Peanut-Butter-And-Jelly

Hi guys! Inspired by Makeup Your Mind‘s Challenge Weeks, I thought I would wear nothing but my recently acquired Too Faced Peanut Butter & Jelly Palette for a work week (five days) to challenge myself to come up with different looks using it. This post will also include my review of the palette, as well as swatches! I’m a bit late to the Peanut Butter & Jelly Palette but it’s been hard to get a hold of, especially considering I live in Canada.

For this post I’m not going to go into detail on the rest of my makeup aside from what’s on the eyes for these looks, but if you have any questions, ask away in the comments!

Review & Swatches

Too-Faced-Peanut-Butter-And-Jelly-1

First, let’s chat about the palette as a whole. It contains mostly neutral shades that lean on the warm side, as well as some pops of purple. This palette also contains both matte and shimmer shades.A smaller palette like this one is quite limited in terms of what shades are included so naturally it can’t contain everything like a larger palette has the potential to. I do think it has enough variety that you can do quite a few looks with it. This is part of the reason I’ve challenged myself to wear it five different ways. You’ll start noticing a theme with my looks, but I’ll let you discover that as you browse through the looks I created. Oh, and did I mention it smells like peanut butter?!

L to R: Spread the Love, Peanut Butter, Peanut Butter Cup, Bananas, Peanut Brittle, Jammin’, Extra Creamy, Jelly & Nuts About You

There really wasn’t any shades in the palette that I found overly disappointing. The mattes didn’t swatch well (which I find is usually the case) but they blended beautifully into the lid. The shimmers glided onto the lid with minimal effort and I had no issues blending them together. Some stand out shades would be Peanut Brittle (swoon!), Peanut Butter and Bananas. I didn’t mention either of the two purples, isn’t that shocking? While they are pretty shades, they didn’t perform as nicely as the other shades.

Overall, I really enjoyed this palette and look forward to wearing it more! It was fun to challenge myself to wear it all week but to wear it differently each time. I have a habit of wearing the same look with a palette time and time again (unless I have something specific in mind to post here, as I try not to post repeats) so this got me out of that rut.

Top 3 Eye Shadow Palettes

Kat-Von-D-Urban-Decay-Anastasia-Beverly-Hills.jpg

Hi guys! It’s no secret that I’m an eye shadow palette junkie. I don’t know what it is but there is something so satisfying about getting a new palette to play with. I find them very inspiring as you can do so many looks with one single palette, particularly the larger ones. So, with that in mind, I thought I would go over the my top three palettes, or better yet, the three that I reach for the most. This probably does change throughout the year so this is based on current habits. I’ve talked about all these palettes before in previous posts where I swatched them so I’ve included those swatches to this post as well!

Kat Von D | Monarch Palette

I really love wearing warm shades on the eyes so this palette really delivers. The shadows are pigmented and buttery smooth so that they blend right in. I found that once I had better makeup brushes, this palette became a breeze to apply and a staple in my collection. I’m still quite sad that it has been discontinued so I’ll treasure this even more. My favourite look with this palette can be found here! The shade Wrath is definitely my favourite in the palette, it is just so warm and beautiful!

Too Faced Totally Cute Palette

Too-Faced-Totally-Cute-Palette.jpg

Hi guys! I posted a quick Makeup of the Day Post a few days ago using most of the shades in the Too Faced Totally Cute Palette and I’ve been using it a lot ever since so I’m ready to share my thoughts on it and show you some swatches!

Too-Faced-Totally-Cute-Palette-1.jpg

First off, the palette comes with two sheets of cute stickers so you can customize the palette to your liking. I thought this was a fun idea and reminded me of how much I loved stickers as a kid. It also reminded me that I’m very particular with sticker placement so I spent some time arranging them the way I wanted it. I appreciated the I ♥ Bunnies sticker as I recently adopted a bunny just over a month ago! Anyways, the stickers are a cute idea and the customization gives this palette a personal touch. It’s nice knowing that my palette is likely quite different looking than everyone else’s.

Gradient Blue Under Eye

Urban-Decay-Electric-Palette-Blue-Gradient-2.jpg

Hi guys! I was going through my eye shadow palette drawer when yet again I was inspired by the Urban Decay Electric Palette. I sometimes go quite awhile without touching this palette but lately I can’t get enough of it! It even made the list for my June Favourites.  I generally use it to add a pop of bright colour so today I thought I would do a neutral eye look with a gradient blue/purple under eye.

Top 5 Summer Lipsticks

Summer-Lipsticks.jpg

Hi guys! I don’t really follow rules when it comes to makeup so I wear most lip colours all year round. However, I do tend to reach for certain colours depending on the season. So when the weather warms up, I find myself automatically reaching for bright lip colours. So, I thought it would be fun to share with you my favourite five lip colours for the summer!

L to R: NARS Audacious Lipstick in Juliette, Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Bang, NARS Audacious Lipstick in Angela, Tarte Amazonian Butter Lipstick in Tulip & Colourpop Lippie Stix in Scandy

NARS | Audacious Lipstick in Juliette

A beautiful light pinky coral lipstick that from the moment I laid eyes on it screamed “summer staple”. For a moment I worried it would be too orange for my fair skin, but I like the way it looks on me. It’s not too bold so it could be worn with an everyday look. Also, the NARS Audacious formula is by far one of my favourite lipstick formulas.

Urban Decay | Revolution Lipstick in Bang

This lipstick recently came into my life and was another that I was unsure how I would feel about. I got it on sale though when the Revolution Lipsticks were discontinued so I didn’t have much to lose. This lipstick is amazing. It’s a beautiful bold bright orange red. This shade is still available in the Vice Lipsticks range in the cream formula. Continue reading

Glamorous in Gold!

Glamorous-in-Gold.jpgHi guys! Gold is usually out of my comfort zone because I tend to prefer either browny-warm shades, or cooler toned shades. I don’t generally wear a lot of gold because of the yellow undertones and how they look with my fair skin. However there are a few gold items in my collection, and since Gold is the Canadian Beauty Bloggers Theme for June, I thought I would do a gold themed look with a video tutorial!

3 Glow Worthy Highlights

Highlighters-ABH-Becca-TheBalm.jpg

Hi guys! I have been getting more into highlighting over the past few years. I find myself constantly drawn to new highlights to add more glow to my face. I generally only highlight the tops of my cheek bones as I have oily skin. I have to be strategic to avoid looking greasy. However, I don’t let that get in the way of getting my highlight on! I’ve heard many oily skinned people say they avoid highlighting but honestly, I think if it’s applied right, anyone can pull it off. Today I want to share with you some of my favourite highlights!

The Balm | Mary Lou-Manizer

The-Balm-Mary-Lou-Manizer-Swatch.jpg

This highlight is essential in everyone’s make up collection. I have seen it applied on so many different skin tones and it looks amazing on all of them! This is a pretty intense highlight so blending and using a light hand is essential. When applied properly it adds such a beautiful glow to the face. It’s a beautiful “honey” shade that can also be used as an eye shadow! This is definitely a staple in my collection and no matter how many other highlights I purchase, I reach for this one time and time again! Continue reading

Violet Voss x Laura Lee Eye Shadow Palette

Violet-Voss-Laura-Lee-Palette.jpg

Hi guys! Oh my goodness you need this palette! I’m just going to cut straight to the chase, it’s amazing. Okay, now that I have that out of the way… I started seeing YouTuber Laura Lee’s collaboration with Violet Voss pop up all over the Snapchat of basically every beauty YouTuber that I follow. I had heard of her, but I hadn’t really watched any of her videos. I couldn’t believe how amazing this palette looked! The swatches looked super pigmented, and buttery smooth so I was instantly intrigued. I started watching her channel and was hooked! After watching her video where she talks about the palette in more detail, I knew I had to mark the pre-sale date on my calendar because I knew these babies would fly off the shelf. Boy, am I glad I did because I am in love!

Violet-Voss-Laura-Lee-Palette-1

The palette itself is mostly warm toned, but she did add a few cool toned shades as well to balance it out. There is a nice mix of mattes, shimmers and metallic shades so you have everything you need for a complete look. The palette is nice and compact so between that and the ability to do several different complete eye shadow looks with it, it would be great for travel. If you haven’t already seen it, you need to see her video on this where she talks about each shadow and why she picked each name. You can find that video here! A lot of the names are inspired by Alabama which is where she is from. I’m not sure if this was just for the pre-sale but the palette also came with a photo signed by Laura Lee herself which was a nice touch! Continue reading
