Seven Deadly Sins of Makeup Tag

seven deadly sins of makeup

Hi guys! Today I was just really feeling like doing a tag post. I love reading tags on other blogs and I love doing them from time to time to switch up my content and most of the time I end up talking about products I may have otherwise not mentioned. Anyways, I knew I wanted to a tag, but the question was ‘which one?’ so I headed over to Stashy’s Awards & Tags Page on her blog for some inspiration! That’s where I found the Seven Deadly Sins of Makeup Tag which I actually had never heard of or seen before. So, thank you Stashy! haha

Anyways, the point of the Seven Deadly Sins of Makeup Tag is that the questions all revolve around… you guessed it, the seven deadly sins.

GREED

What’s your most inexpensive beauty item? What’s your most expensive beauty item?

My most inexpensive beauty item would have to be my Essence Lip Liners. I can’t remember the exact price but they are only a few dollars and I love them.

kat-von-d-metal-matte-inside

My most expensive beauty item would probably be my recently purchased Kat Von D MetalMatte Palette. It thought it would be my Urban Decay Vice Palettes but they are actually $4 less! I looove eye shadow palettes so I tend to spend the most money on those.

3 Natural Looking Blushes

natural-blushes

Hi guys! Blush was a makeup step that I overlooked for years. Until probably about 2 to 3 years ago, I never wore blush. While I switch up the intensity and shade of my blush depending on the look I’m going for, I love a good natural looking blush! Today I thought I would share 3 of my favourites!

Urban Decay | Afterglow 8-Hour Powder Blush in Fetish

urban-decay-fetish

This is by far one of my favourite blushes ever. You can’t tell by looking at it, but I wear this shade almost every day! If I don’t know which blush I want to wear, this matte beauty is what will end up on my face. It is very pigmented so just a tiny tap of a brush into the product is all you need to get a light dusting of pinky-nude blush! I’ve yet to find a makeup look that this shade doesn’t go with.

Love for Lipstick: Urban Decay 1993

urban-decay-1993

Hi guys! It’s been awhile since I last posted a Love for Lipstick post but I’ve got another lipstick to give you a full review of. Today we will be talking about the Urban Decay Vice Comfort Matte Formula. Specifically, we’ll be talking about Urban Decay 1993. If you’re unfamiliar with my Love for Lipstick series, this is my exploration of different lipsticks from different brands and price points to ultimately compile some comparisons and favourites. My current goal is to get through the formulas from the Urban Decay Vice Lipstick line. I’ve got Comfort Matte and Metallized formulas so I’ll be starting with those and will add more as I buy more of these.

So, as the same suggests, these are very comfortable matte lipsticks. They apply like a cream and dry down to a demi-matte finish (compared to say, a super matte liquid lipstick). I find the formula to be very pigmented and one swipe is enough to get the shade in the tube. I like to blot it with a tissue and then add a second layer just for extra durability though.

Urban Decay 1993 (Comfort Matte) Wear Test

urban-decay-1993-lip-swatch

  1. Freshly applied at 8 am (sorry this picture isn’t the greatest, it’s so dark in the mornings now!)
  2. Checking in at 12 pm! This is after eating breakfast, and drinking lots of tea and water throughout the morning.
  3. After eating lunch around 12:30 pm (the sun decided to come out and blind me for this round of photos)
  4. Final check in at 5 pm after an afternoon of more tea and water

I’m pretty impressed by the wear time for this lipstick. It isn’t as durable as say, a liquid lipstick, but it fades nicely and it isn’t so matte that you can’t rub your lips around to redistribute the pigment. It started to wear around the inside of the mouth around picture #3 but with this shade it wasn’t too noticeable unless you are looking for it. I’m not sure how a bolder colour would fare. Honestly though, I don’t really expect a tube lipstick to truly last all day like I do with a liquid lipstick.

Overall, I love this formula! It’s comfortable to wear, it’s pigmented and it has great wear time! Once I make my way through the rest of the Urban Decay Vice lipstick formulas I would definitely grab more of these. And, incase I haven’t mentioned it enough lately, I am in love with Urban Decay 1993. It’s everything I dreamed it to be and more!

What lipstick have you been obsessing over lately? Let me know in the comments down below! If you have missed any of my Love for Lipstick series you can find all of those posts here!

September Favourites: Makeup, Skincare & More!

september-favourites-2016

Hi guys! September came to an end just as quickly as it began, it’s hard to believe we are now into fall and my favourite holiday, Halloween, is just around the corner! Even though this also means we are getting closer to dreaded winter (yes, I said it), we can at least chat about my September Favourites! There has been a few products this month that I have been using lots and obsessing over!

Makeup

Urban Decay | Vice Lipstick in 1993

urban-decay-1993

I picked up this lipstick as part of my Sephora haul in August and it quickly became a favourite. This shade just screams “fall” to me so it’s no surprise I wore it a ton in September! This lipstick even made my list of top 5 lipsticks for fall! I’m not going to say too much about it since I did talk about it in that post but I just had to include this in my September Favourites.

Urban Decay | All Nighter Liquid Foundation in 0.5

urban-decay-all-nighter-foundation-0-5

Another pick from Urban Decay! I picked up this foundation as well during my Sephora haul in August so I’ve been using it for over a month now. It’s a touch too late for my skin at the moment, but as fall and winter sets in, it will be perfect! Right now I’m using a bit of bronzer to make it work and occasionally mixing in a darker foundation. But, with that said, I love this foundation! It definitely is long-wearing and keeps me matte. You need to work quickly to blend it in, but the end result is a flawless looking face! It creates such a wonderful canvas for the rest of your makeup. Love it! I’ve got a swatch of it over in my Sephora Haul post if you’re interested!

Skincare

Nivea | Purifying Toner

nivea-purifying-toner

I never really used toners in my skincare routine until now. I went to Shopper’s Drugmart about a month or so ago to pick up a new night cream and I ended up leaving with this as well. This toner is meant for those with oily skin like myself. It is enriched with ocean algae and hydra IQ to tone and purify skin to remove oil and impurity build up. This reduces excess sebum and prevents shine. What I love about this product is that it does all of that and doesn’t excessively dry out my skin. My skin feels balanced and hydrated. I’m glad I added this to my daily routine so this definitely belongs in my September Favourites!

More!

Marc Anthony Hair Care | Coconut Oil Curl Cream

marc-anthony-coconut-oil-curl-cream

I bought this before I went on vacation to bring with me as my only hair styling product. I’ve loved Marc Anthony products for curly hair for awhile so I had high hopes and was confident this one would work out. Boy, am I ever glad I was right! As promised, this product fights frizz which is something I am prone to. After applying it to damp hair and letting it air dry, I am left with soft, defined and healthy looking curls. This product is infused with biotin and I actually do feel an improvement in my hair after using it exclusively for a month (as I’ve continued to use it since I’ve been home).

Those are my favourites for September! I’d love to hear what your favourites were so feel free to let me know in the comments down below!

Robyn

MOTD: Playing with Colour

urban-decay-electric-palette-1

Hi guys! It feels like such a long time since I did a makeup look for the blog! I guess I just posted my first Fall Trends post on Modern Gothic last weekend, but since I was out of town I actually did that look quite awhile ago. While I was away I didn’t wear much makeup so I really wanted to play with makeup and do a bold look today. I have no plans to leave the house so it’s the perfect time to experiment. A few things inspired today’s look… The Urban Decay Electric Palette, peacocks and this look that I did here with a gradient blue under eye.

Playing with the Urban Decay Electric Palette

urban-decay-electric-palette-peacock

urban-decay-electric-palette

Products Used:

Primer: Nivea Post Shave Balm in Sensitive
Foundation: Urban Decay All Nighter Foundation in 0.5 with a tiny bit of Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin Foundation in Ivory  mixed in
Concealer: Too Faced Born This Way Concealer in Very Fair
Powder: Maybelline Matte + Poreless Translucent Powder
Blush: NARS Orgasm
Highlight: Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector (Pressed) in Pearl
Eyes: Urban Decay Primer Potion (original). Kat Von D Shade + Light Palette – Samael, Lucius & Latinus (mixed in crease/transition area) and Lucius (brow bone). Urban Decay Electric Palette – Gonzo (inner part of eye lid and under eye), Chaos (middle part of eye lid and under eye) and Urban (outer part of eye lid and under eye). Smashbox X-Rated Mascara (lashes).
Brows: NYX Eyebrow Gel in Blonde
Lips: Essence Lip Liner in In the Nude & MAC Blankety

When it comes to wanting to play with colour the Urban Decay Electric Palette is always my go-to. It’s so pigmented and it has the right mixture of shades in it for a colourful look. I think this look would be great for a night out, or to be paired with a peacock halloween costume. A few years ago I dressed up as a peacock and I wish I would have had the Urban Decay Electric Palette back then because it is so perfect for that! Actually, the Urban Decay Electric Palette is currently on sale at Sephora, I’m not sure if it is being discontinued, but it’s a good time to scoop it up if you’ve been thinking about it!

For a look like this, I would suggest using a small brush for the lid as you need to carefully apply the eye shadow to avoid getting it into the crease or higher. I also used a layering technique to blend the shadows together. This involved going back and forth between the neighbouring colours to ensure a smooth transition instead of harsh borders.

I paired this look with relatively neutral makeup so that the eye area is the focal point! Nude lipsticks are perfect for a look like this. To intensify MAC’s Blankety, I added Essence’s In the Nude Lip Liner under it. I also tried out the Smashbox Rated-X Mascara that I got in an Ipsy bag awhile ago and I’m really liking it so far!

What is your favourite colourful makeup palette? Let me know in the comments down below!

Fall Trends: Modern Gothic

Fall-Trends-2016-Modern-Gothic-2

Hi guys! Since the seasons are changing I thought it was time to switch gears and start talking about some fall trends for 2016. At the time of writing this post (which was in advance since I’m currently on the road) Sephora hadn’t updated their Trending at Sephora page yet so I did some research to see what the trends for fall 2016 are. The first one that I wan to talk about is Modern Gothic.

Modern Gothic is, as the name suggests, a modern twist on the classic gothic look. Gothic makeup is generally very dark and dramatic with an emphasis on black. The face itself is usually made to be lighter than usual, in some cases, a very white porcelain, depending on the person’s skin tone. The modern twist seems to be doing a lighter smokey eye using more neutral shades paired with a bold, almost bitten-shade lip and defined brows.

Fall-Trends-2016-Modern-Gothic

Fall-Trends-2016-Modern-Gothic-1

Products Used:

Primer: Nivea Post Shave Balm in Sensitive
Foundation: Urban Decay All Nighter Foundation in 0.5 with a tiny bit of Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin Foundation in Ivory  mixed in
Concealer: Too Faced Born This Way Concealer in Very Fair & Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer in Light Neutral (mixed)
Powder: Maybelline Matte + Poreless Translucent Powder
Blush: Too Faced Sweethearts Blush in Candy Glow
Highlight: Too Faced Candlelight Duo in Rosy Glow (both shades mixed)
Eyes: Urban Decay Primer Potion (original). Kat Von D Innerstellar Palette – Nightcrawler (transition), Orion (crease, outer-v and outer undereye) and 3 AM (inner part of lid and undereye). Revlon Dramatic Definition Mascara (lashes).
Brows: NYX Eyebrow Gel in Blonde
Lips: Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Shame

For my look, I’ve used rosey-taupe shades on the eye with a smoked out looking undereye. Paired with this, is a deep berry lip using Urban Decay’s Shame. Although my skin is a bit darker in the summer month’s, to keep my skin on the lighter side, I didn’t do any contouring or bronzing. It looks like I’ve contoured my cheekbones in the second photo, but that’s natural believe it or not! I think the end result of my take on the Modern Gothic fall trend is quite wearable. I would wear this again for sure!

What are some of your favourite trends you’ve been seeing for the fall? Let me know in the comments down below! Stay tuned for more fall trends!

Robyn

Top 5 Fall Lipsticks

Fall-Lipsticks-2016

Hi guys! It’s been awhile since I’ve done a top 5, the last one I did was for summer lipsticks. With the fall season looming I thought it would be fun to look at my top 5 most reached-for fall lipsticks. When the nights start getting cooler and the leaves start changing colours I am all about browns and burgundy shades on my lips. It isn’t even fall yet and I’m excited to start wearing these shades more!

Fall-Lipsticks-2016-Trends

Colourpop | Ultra Matte Lipstick in Kapow

This shade is definitely the boldest of the bunch. It looks very, very dark on the lips on me but I love it. I did a look using it last fall so you can see what it looks like on me here. I like it best with very simple, neutral makeup so that it stands out but the look as a whole isn’t over the top. Colourpop describes this shade as a muted grey-taupe and I think that is a very accurate description. I find that this shade wears well and is comfortable on the lips. If you are sensitive to liquid lipsticks and have issues with dry lips you may want to find a similar shade in a traditional lipstick formula.

MAC | Matte Lipstick in Studded Kiss

Studded Kiss is a dark oxblood shade. Oxblood sounds like a gross name for a colour, but I am obsessed with that shade in the fall. I have oxblood pants that I’m just dying to start wearing when it gets cool enough to wear full length pants! Again this is a matte shade, which isn’t surprising because I love matte lipsticks. I mostly pair this with neutral/brown looks. For the most part with fall I usually tone down the eye makeup and let deep lipstick shades do the talking.

L’Oreal | Colour Riche Lipstick in Pure Burgundy

I re-discovered this lipstick in my collection. I’m not sure when I got it, I don’t think it is available anymore but it is a colour that I love for fall. It is a beautiful burgundy shade. Pure Burgundy is a bit deeper than MAC’s Studded Kiss so it adds a bit more drama to a look.

Urban Decay| Vice Lipstick in 1993

1993 has only recently come into my life but I know it will be a fall staple. It’s a medium brown shade that is really quite wearable and versatile if you like brown lipsticks. It is a comfort matte shade so although it is a matte lipstick, it does not feel drying on the lips.

Colourpop | Lippie Stix in Grunge

I thought that Grunge from Colourpop was no longer available since it was part of their 90’s collection last fall but I just checked and it is still on their website! They describe this shade as a cool-toned plum brown. Similar to my other choices, this is also a matte lipstick. Colourpop makes great matte Lippie Stix, they are quite comfortable to wear. In my mind Grunge and 1993 were similar, but now seeing them swatched side-by-side they really are quite different. Beside 1993, you really can see the plum in Grunge. It’s a beautiful shade and I’m so happy to see that it is still available.

What are your favourite lipsticks for fall? Let me know in the comments down below!

Robyn

Makeup Haul: Sephora, Ulta & Morphe!

Sephora-Ulta-Morphe-Haul

Hi guys! I mentioned yesterday that I went to Minnesota to see Gwen Stefani and I talked about the makeup look that I wore as well as the event itself. Now it is time to get into the important stuff, the makeup haul! I went to Sephora, Ulta and placed a Morphe Brushes order before I left so I’ve got a lot to share with you!

For a beauty blogger who loves Sephora, you would probably be surprised to find out that I only get to go to an actual store a few times a year. This was my second (and third) trip to a Sephora store in 2016! This was also my first trip to an Ulta store this year as well. I don’t think I had been to one since July 2015 which was my last trip to Minnesota. I always try to plan in advance as much as I can so that I stick to my mental “shopping list” to avoid going overboard.

What I Bought at Ulta

Lorac-Pro-2-Laura-Gellar-Charming-Pink

My first stop was at Ulta since we stopped in Duluth, MN for lunch and there is an Ulta in the same mall where we ate. I knew that I wanted to focus on brands that I can’t get in Canada so I immediately scoped out the Lorac and Laura Gellar displays. This purchase was 100% inspired by What Should I Buy? At Ulta over on the blog Classic Maggie! I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to focus on at Ulta and that post put me on the right track.

Lorac | Pro Eye Shadow Palette 2

I didn’t own any Lorac Palettes so I knew I had to check them out. As soon as I saw the blue shade, Navy and the purplely-metallic shade Chrome, I knew this was the one. I haven’t used it yet but I’m really excited to start playing with the many, many colour combinations this palette contains! The metallic/shimmery shades swatch like a dream. I always struggle swatching mattes but they felt promising.

Gwen Stefani: Recap & Makeup Look

Gwen-Stefani-Essentials

Hi guys! As some of you may have known if you follow me on Instagram or Twitter, I went to St. Paul, Minnesota over the weekend to see Gwen Stefani for her This is What the Truth Feels Like Tour! So I thought I would just go over a couple highlights and show you my makeup look that I wore to the event!

The Makeup Look

Foundation-Samples

I actually ended up wearing TWO different foundations this day as I was testing them out. I don’t often get to go to a Sephora store in person so I wanted to test out foundations before I purchased them. I got samples of the Urban Decay All Nighter Foundation and the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Foundation. Somehow it was so not noticeable at all that the shades were slightly different. I ended up just wearing the combination to the event because both wore so well! I had been planning on taking them off to switch to the winner but I didn’t have to nor had time so I left my base makeup alone.
