Colourpop Hi-Maintenance Eyeshadow Palette

Colourpop Hi-Maintenance

Hi guys! Last month I shared the Colourpop Hi-Maintenance Eyeshadow Palette as part of my September haul. I’d been dying to try Colourpop’s pressed eyeshadows since they had launched so this quad seemed like a good time to try them out. It contains two shimmery shades and two mattes. I love the colours included in this palette as I enjoy wearing red/burgundy shades on the eyes!

Colourpop Hi-Maintenance Palette

The Packaging is a simple white Colourpop cardboard palette, with no markings of which palette it is, or what shades it contains. That is, aside from the cardboard sleeve that it comes with which you can see above. The palette itself does feel quite sturdy though and the eyeshadows can be removed to be either switched-out or to be added to a z-palette. I wish the palette itself had the quad’s name and the names of the shades on it though.

Essie Gel Couture

Essie Gel Couture

Hi guys! One of my greatest pet peeves is when a manicure chips pre-maturely. At times, I don’t repaint my nails because I dread the first chip which usually occurs a couple days later while the rest of the manicure looks okay. I love painting my nails but I just have to be in the right mood for it. With all of that said, I was quite excited when Nail Polish Canada, one of my favourite websites to order nail polish from, asked me to pick two shades from the Essie Gel Couture line to review. Inspired by the fall season I chose a merlot shade, Model Clicks, and a grey shade, Closing Night.

The Essie Gel Couture line is a gel-like system that does not require a UV lamp. Interestingly enough, it also does not require a base coat. Being an avid base-coat user this seemed strange to me, but although it sounds insignificant, it saved me a LOT of time when doing these manicures.

Essie Gel Couture | Model Clicks

Essie Gel Couture Model Clicks

The first shade I tried was the Essie Gel Couture in the shade Model Clicks. It’s a deep merlot shade that is beautiful for the fall season. The first thing I have to say about the Essie Gel Couture system is that I absolutely LOVE the brush. It’s a bit wider than your average brush and is also flattened. It was so easy to get a nice, even and clean application. I barely had to do any clean up afterwards. It took two thin coats to achieve opacity which is pretty standard.

I was also very impressed by the dry time. I was a bit skeptical since I always choose top coats specifically for a quick dry. A top coat that is part of a system like this usually isn’t quick dry so I was worried. However, my nails dried in record time! Within 15-20 minutes I could start lightly using my hands again without worrying about ruining my new manicure. It definitely felt like it was a quick dry top coat. It also is quite shiny as well!

The photo above was taken after SEVEN days of wear! This includes five work days, where I essentially type on a keyboard like a mad-woman all day and it also survived a wedding on it’s second night of wear. Aside from a tiny bit of tip-wear and tiny chips out of the bottom, it looks passable! I can’t believe it! I think I found my new favourite nail polish formula!

Essie Gel Couture | Closing Night

Essie Gel Couture Closing Night

Next up, I currently have Essie Gel Couture in the shade Closing Night on my nails. It’s a grey with a soft shimmer to it. It applied just as nicely as the previous shade and looks beautiful on the nails. This shade as well took two shin coats to achieve opacity.

Overall, I am super impressed with the Essie Gel Couture line and am shocked it took me this long to try them. If you’re looking for a long wearing manicure you can try at home I would highly recommend these! You can find the full selection of Essie Gel Couture over at Nail Polish Canada. They offer free shipping to Canada on orders over $19 which is very reasonable!

Have you tried the Essie Gel Couture line? Let me know in the comments down below!

Q3 Empties: July to September 2017

Q3 Empties

Hi guys! With Q3 complete it’s time to take a look at the empties that I have amassed over the last few months. There’s a few repeats this time around, as well as a whole bunch of mascara. I cleaned/organized my vanity the other day and found a bunch of mascaras that I thought I had already thrown out so I figured I might as well add those in here too! As you may recall, I’ve had my quarters mixed up this year so this post is a bit light as I had a few items in my last post that probably should have been in this one.

Q3 Empties

Rimmel | Shake it Fresh Mascara

I don’t really want to talk too much about this one as I did a full review of it here. I got it as part of an Influenster campaign and I hated it. I have barely used it but, I just can’t. It’s terrible. It didn’t flake or smudge, but the formula gave absolutely no volume to my lashes. They just kind of stuck straight out. Would I repurchase it? No way. With so many mascara choices out there, this is a hard pass.

Revlon | Dramatic Definition Mascara (Waterproof)

I gave the original version of the Revlon Dramatic Definition Mascara a very positive review, however, when I went to repurchase it I accidentally bought the waterproof version. I don’t really wear waterproof mascaras and don’t particularly enjoy removing them so I hardly ever knowingly purchase them. I kind of just forgot I owned it as I didn’t really enjoy using it. Would I repurchase it? No, but I’d go back to the regular version. Continue reading

Wedding Makeup Look

Wedding Makeup Look

Hi guys! This past weekend I attended a wedding so I thought it would be fun to share with you the makeup that I wore. One of my favourite things about going out is getting to play with makeup and put together a more elegant look than my normal day to day routine. So, let’s take a peak at what my wedding makeup look comprised of!

Since I was wearing a red dress, I wanted to something warm with a touch of drama so I was instantly drawn to Morphe’s  the Jaclyn Hill Palette. The other component that I knew this wedding makeup look needed was a dark and vampy lip which I felt that my recently acquired Colourpop Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick in Saturday achieved perfectly.

August & September Favourites: Makeup, Skincare & More!

August September Favourites

Hi guys! I didn’t post my favourites for August (to be honest it was a bit difficult given my VERY minimalist summer) so I thought it would be more valuable to add them in with September so here we are! Now that the weather has been cooling down, and I’m not spending my weekends out at the lake, makeup has become more of a part of my routine again. Which, to be honest, I did miss it! So, let’s take a peak at what I’ve been loving lately!

August September Favourites

Makeup Revolution | The Matte Blush in Beloved

Makeup Revolution’s the Matte Blush in the shade Beloved has been my constant go-to every day blush for the past 2.5 months. Basically, ever since I hauled in from Ulta in July it has rocked my world. It’s a very light coral nude shade and just something about it gives my face a beautiful flushed glow. I can’t get enough of it. Continue reading

Fresh Rose Face Mask

Fresh Rose Face Mask

Hi guys! In an effort to continue pampering my skin with weekly(ish) masking sessions, the most recent one that I have tried is the Fresh Rose Face Mask. I believe I got this as part of a Sephora point redemption in a Fresh set. Suitable for all skin types this skin hydrates, tones and soothes the skin. It contains both rosewater and real rose petals. September Collective Haul

September collective haul

Hi guys! Although it isn’t quite the end of September, I can assure you that I am done hauling for the month. So, I thought I’d collectively share in one place what I purchased this month! I’m planning on posting reviews, swatches, makeup looks and so on using these products so stay tuned!

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick Haze Duo

L to R: Haze and Haze II

The first purchase I made this month was the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick Haze Duo which was a flash sale/launch for 48 hours earlier this month. The shades were super unique to my collection and I looooove the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick formula so I couldn’t pass them up. I posted a makeup look using Haze II just a couple days ago!

Kat Von D Haze II Everlasting Liquid Lipstick

Kat Von D Haze II

Hi guys! I recently picked up the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick Haze duo when it was briefly available during a flash sale a few weeks ago. I’ve been dying to try a purplely/grey liquid lipstick so Kat Von D Haze II definitely seemed like it would fit the bill. Both shades in the set are gorgeous and by purchasing them in a set I saved a few dollars so it was a no-brainer when I placed my order. So, today’s makeup look was completely inspired by Kat Von D Haze II.

MOTD: Neutral Eye + Purple Lips & Cheeks

Hi guys! Today I thought I’d share the makeup that I’m wearing on my face today. My only inspiration for today was that I wanted to finally try the Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops in the shade Halo sample that I picked up from Sephora a few months ago. I was quite enamoured with it once I saw it on Makeup Your Mind (her photos of this highlight are STUNNING!) and decided to give it a shot. I don’t normally go for liquid highlights as I have oily skin and everything must be powdered. Full discloser, I did end up setting this with the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Prismatic Amethyst. It not only helped set it but also helped diffuse it a bit as I was going to a day time event.

So for this look I tried both combining a TINY amount into my foundation and I also added some to my cheekbones. I think next time I’d add a little more to my foundation to see if it makes a difference. I do set everything with a matte powder but it did add a little bit of a glow from within regardless which is what I was going for.

Tony Moly I’m Real Red Wine Mask Sheet

Tony Moly I'm Real Red Wine Mask Sheet

Hi guys! It’s been a little bit since I last posted about a face mask but I’ve finally taken some time to relax and put on a face mask so I thought I’d share some of my thoughts with you. This time I have tried the Tony Moly I’m Real Red Wine Mask Sheet. As a lover of red wine, I couldn’t possibly pass up this sheet mask. This mask is formulated with, you guessed it, red wine extract which reduces the appearance of large pores while it both tightens and purifies the skin. Now, as a disclaimer, I did do the Glamglow Supermud Clearing Treatment first to help extract the gunk from my pores, as they needed some serious TLC.

The first thing I noticed about the Tony Moly I’m Real Red Wine Mask Sheet is that it is definitely not cut to fit comfortably on my face. I’m not sure if my face was too large, or if the holes just didn’t align, but something just wasn’t right. As a result, it bunched up in a few areas. This made it kind of awkward feeling to wear for an extended period of time. I wore this mask for about 20-30 minutes. Continue reading
