Versatile Blogger Award

versatile-blogger-award

Hi guys! I was recently nominated for the Versatile Blogger Award by the lovely Sarra of That Geeky Girlfriend! Thank you so much for the nomination! If you haven’t checked out her blog, I recommend it! I hadn’t done this award yet and my nails are NOT ready for Mani Monday after a weekend at the cottage, so here we are!

Versatile Blogger Award Rules:

  1. Display Award
  2. Thank the person who nominated you
  3. Share seven facts about yourself
  4. Nominate up to 10 other bloggers

Seven Facts About Me:

  1. I love animals. My furbabies are my pride and joy. I’ve got two dogs, Max (5) and Dex (1) and a bunny, Bunnelby (approx 4 months old).
  2. I love Halloween! I think it is my favourite holiday. Dressing up for Halloween is one of my favourite things to do. I usually wait until the fall to decide what I want to be each year but I love thinking about it throughout the year.
  3. I’m a geek & proud of it. Pokemon, Game of Thrones, Star Wars, Star Trek, comic books, video games, I enjoy them all.
  4. I change up my hair colour a lot. I love the feeling of walking into the hair salon with one colour and walking out with another. There are periods where I’ll keep my hair a colour for awhile and just do up-keep but usually I change it at least a bit.
  5. I’m terrified of birds. I will cross the street if there is a bird on the sidewalk. I fear birds for a good reason though. They seem to dislike me! I’ve been attacked/dive-bombed by so many different kinds of birds. Maybe some day I’ll do a post and share some of my bird stories 😖
  6. I’m really shy and introverted. It will take me for ever to work up the courage to talk to new people. But, once I’ve warmed up to them, I love to chat! I actually scored the highest in my Personality Psychology Class on an introversion scale in university.
  7. Travelling with my husband is one of my favourite things to do. I love exploring new countries with him. We are very like-minded when it comes to travel so we make a great team!

I Nominate The Following Fantastic Bloggers:

I’m sorry if you’ve already done this tag, I can never remember who has done them and who hasn’t.
  1. A Maple Girl
  2. Classic Maggie
  3. Polished and Inspired
  4. Fierce Paint
  5. Just Winging It
  6. A Girl Recommends
  7. A Brash Attitude

Robyn

One Year Blogiversary + Giveaway Winner

one-year-blogiversary

A photo in front of Lake Superior, the lake that inspired my blog name and gave me that final push to start this blog!

Hi guys! Can you believe it has officially been ONE YEAR since I started Lipstick on the Lake? Where does the time go. So today, as I celebrate my one year blogiversary, I thought I would also announce the winner of my Urban Decay Naked Palette Giveaway!

I’ve randomly drawn from all of eligible entries and the winner is…

*drumroll*

Polished and Inspired!!!!

A huge congratulations & I hope she enjoys the palette!!! She has chosen the Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette, which is my personal favourite of the four! The palette should be en route soon if it isn’t already. If you haven’t already checked out her blog, I highly recommend it.

One Year Blogiversary Highlights From the Past Year

My very first post

My first post was a brief introduction of myself & the blog, as well as a mini review of the Makeup Geek Foiled Eye Shadows!

My Everyday Makeup Routine

This is still one of my go-to eye makeup looks and it actually features the Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette so it’s extra appropriate to mention in this post!

The first Mani Monday!

I haven’t been great at keeping this series alive lately, but being the nail polish addict that I am, it holds a special place in my heart!

My first haul!

My first haul (of many) on the blog was a Colourpop haul!

One of my favourite looks on the blog

This was a silver/purple look I did using the Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette! I need to re-create this!

The launch of my YouTube channel

Admittedly, my YouTube channel has been a bit quiet lately, but I do have plans to bring it back to life in the fall. Filming this first video with my cousin was definitely a highlight of the past year. It’s hilarious and I highly recommend it. It’s long, so grab a snack!

Love for Lipstick is born

This is a serious I started in February that is very near to my heart. Through this series I review, compare and haul various different lip products in an effort to try as many different ones as I can this year!

Another one of my favourite looks

This minty green smoky look with the Anastasia Beverly Hills Self-Made Palette is definitely a favourite. I have been loving mint green this year and this shade is exceptional!

The tag that was practically made for me…

This tag is the Perfect Palette Tag and if you are familiar with my blog, you know that I love eye shadow palettes. This was a really fun tag to film, despite the technical difficulties that I experienced mid-way!

One of the posts I’m most proud of…

I really enjoyed writing this post on 3 highlighters that I find to be most glow worthy. I was really inspired when I started writing this!

The launch of my self-hosted website and first giveaway

At the allllmost one year mark I started looking into switching my blog over from WordPress.com to a self-hosted website (using WordPress.org). This was a lot of work and I learned a lot along the way. It was so worth it!

The post I am most proud of this year

I worked really, really hard on this post about the Too Faced Peanut Butter & Jelly Palette. I worked on this while my website was “down” as I worked on self-hosting. I wanted to post something extra special when I came back and this was the result! I included five different looks using the palette in this post.

My guest appearance on the MyLipAddiction.com Beauty Podcast

What a wonderful way to finish off year one of blogging! Cat & I had a lovely chat on her podcast about fall trends, my recent makeup haul and most importantly, the advice I would give to someone who is wanting to start a blog. Cat’s podcast is amazing and I highly recommend it!

Thank you!!!

What a year it has been! I would like to thank every single one of you for reading my blog… Whether you have been around since the beginning, or you’ve just found me (welcome!), I appreciate you all! I would also like to thank the friends and family who have taken the time to read and share my blog posts, your support truly means the world to me. This blog has a special place in my heart as it is where I can share my passion for beauty products and do something I love, which is writing. I feel like I’ve made some great friends in the beauty blogging community so far and I’m excited to digitally meet even more of you!

With that said, I do have the rest of the month planned out as I’ll be busy planning a trip and then will be on it, but, what would you like to see on Lipstick on the Lake? Let me know in the comments down below!

xoxo,

Robyn

Quick Announcement!

Hi guys! I’m getting into the final stages of being ready to launch my new self-hosted blog. The last step is the DNS transfer so that you’ll be directed to the new website when you go to my URL, I’ll be putting in this request shortly and it can take a day or two to finalize.

With that said, when the new website launches there will be an exciting giveaway! You can either keep checking back at http://lipstickonthelake.com or you can keep an eye on my Twitter for the announcement. I’m hoping to have the website live by Wednesday or Thursday this week!

I’m getting excited to start posting again!!!

Have a wonderful week!

Robyn

I’m Moving!

Hi guys! My self-hosted blog, while not quite perfect yet, is ready to launch! It will be up very soon, using this very same domain name so you will be able to find me in the same place (http://lipstickonthelake.com) however I may no longer show up in your WordPress Reader if that is where you usually find me.

For now, the best way to continue following my blog would be through one of the following options:

  1. Bloglovin
  2. Add me to your WordPress Reader

The domain transfer could take up to 7 days so during this time I will not be posting on the blog. During this time I am going to continue to write blog material so that I will return with a wealth of quality posts.

Have a wonderful week!

xoxo,

Robyn

Snapshot Sunday + Weekly Post Recap

Hi guys! I can’t believe it is Sunday again. Sunday has become even more of a bittersweet day for me. It already was because it is both a day off but also signals the end of the weekend. However, now it also means Game of Thrones and when that’s over, it’s almost time to go to bed and again, the weekend is over.

Snapshot Sunday.jpg

1. Enjoying the beautiful weather on the deck 2. Dex (and Max, not pictured) meets Yuki!

This past week breezed right by though. Before I knew it, it was Friday and it was the weekend again. I went to see Captain America: Civil War on Friday with my husband. I enjoyed it, however I don’t think it is my favourite in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It really got me thinking that they really need to make a movie centred around Black Widow. She only ever has a guest role in the other Avengers’ movies but she really does have an interesting enough of a back-story to hold her own… Maybe someday! If you typically enjoy the Marvel Cinematic Universe then I think you will like Civil War. However, I would love for all the superhero vs. superhero themes to take a break for awhile. Snapshot Sunday + Weekly Post Recap

Hi guys! This will be a quick one today but I do have a few eventful updates from the week.

P1020625.jpg

Flowers from my husband!

On Monday, I went for dinner with one of my besties, and her adorable little boy. We went to Moxies and had a delicious dinner and did a lot of catching up!

On Tuesday, it was the 10th anniversary of my husband and I being a couple (not our wedding anniversary). We went out for a lovely dinner and then watched Star Wars: The Force Awakens when we got home! I don’t think I can ever see that movie enough times.

The rest of the week is kind of a blur, I don’t think I really did much else. I did buy tickets to see Gwen Stefani in the summer, so that is something to look forward to!

Other than that… if you missed any of this week’s posts you can find them here:

MOTD: Pop of Purple

4 Eye Makeup Essentials

Love for Lipstick: Essence Lip Products

Cranberry MAC Makeup Look

I hope you all have a lovely week!

Robyn

Snapshot Sunday + Weekly Post Recap

Hi guys! I think Spring is finally starting to arrive in Thunder Bay… it’s about time! After what feels like the longest winter ever, we have finally got some nice weather.

April 17-16.jpg

1. Took a quick pic after our walk on Friday! 2. Dex rocking his new haircut!

So, to celebrate, I walked around Boulevard Lake, not once this weekend, but twice! I went on Friday with two of my besties and then again today with my husband. It’s such a lovely walk and a great way to add some light exercise to your day! Continue reading

Snapshot Sunday + Weekly Post Recap

Hi guys! This past week hasn’t really been anything out of the ordinary. Just the usual work, come home, exercise, go to bed, repeat.

2016-04-10 09.58.32.jpg

The only picture I took this week… My silly pup Dex who desperately needs a haircut (and is getting one next weekend!)

One of the highlights was that the Sephora VIB sale is currently underway so I placed an order on Thursday… Can’t wait for it to arrive! I will of course, share my haul on the blog when it gets here! Continue reading

Snapshot Sunday + Weekly Post Recap

Hi guys! How is it Sunday again already? This week has been fairly eventful as I started my new position at work on Monday. I’ve been learning lots and have definitely been enjoying it!

Other than that, I didn’t really do that much during the week outside of work. I’ve been exercising quite a bit and trying even harder to stick to my routine.

On Monday, since it was a holiday I went for a walk around Boulevard Lake with one of my besties and her adorable pup, Winnie! It was a beautiful day for a walk and the snow was almost all gone (at that point…  its come back and left again twice since then). After that I had an Easter dinner at my parents house which was delicious as usual! Always look forward to my family dinners there!

April 3-16.jpg

1. Red Pepper Pasta and Short Rib Ragu from Big Lakes Pasta/Redhead and the Chef 2. The snow just seems to melt and then come back! 3. One of my besties surprised me with this Black Widow bobblehead from Funko Pop, he knows me well!

On Saturday, my husband and I went to the Spring Home & Garden Show and browsed around. I ended up taking home some homemade pasta and sauce from one of the vendors at the market there. I think I’m going to have to go to the market again next weekend and pick up more pasta, and possibly some perogies too! I already made the pasta and it was incredible. Both were purchased from Big Lakes Pasta but the sauce was made by Redhead and the Chef. Highly recommend both! Continue reading
