NARS Powermatte Lip Pigment

NARS Powermatte Lip Pigment

In one of my recent Sephora orders I picked up a deluxe sized sample of the NARS Powermatte Lip Pigment in the shade Starwoman. This is a formula I’ve been wanting to try for a long time so I was excited to see it in the Rewards Bazaar. I’ve worn it a couple of times now so I’m ready to give you my thoughts on the formula, as well as show you the photos I took throughout the day of how it wore. Continue reading

Fenty Beauty Undefeated Stunna Lip Paint

Fenty Beauty Undefeated

Fenty Beauty recently launched three more shades of their Stunna Lip Paints – Unlocked, Unattached and finally, Undefeated. I love the Stunna Lip Paint Formula as you can tell from my previous full review so I knew I had to pick up at least one of the new shades. I chose the purple shade, Undefeated, as I love wearing purple lipsticks and it seemed the most unique compared to other shades in my lipstick collection. While I’m not going to review the formula again as my opinion remains unchanged (it is fantastic), I did want to feature the Fenty Beauty Undefeated Stunna Lip Paint in a makeup look!

Drunk Elephant: Rise + Glow & Night Bright Duos

Drunk Elephant Routine

For the last couple of years I’ve been drawn to Drunk Elephant products. However, I always admired them from a distance… never taking the plunge. I have to admit, their high price tag always deterred me from giving them a try. However, while browsing Sephora’s website I noticed they had two sets of deluxe sized serums/oils. One meant for daytime (Rise + Glow) and one meant for nighttime (Night Bright). They were a reasonable price and I figured they would provide me with enough product to see what the hype was about. I’ve been using them for a little over a month now (and still have product left!) so I’m ready to share my thoughts on them. Spoiler alert: I’m hooked.

Drunk Elephant Routine

Drunk Elephant’s philosophy is to only use ingredients that directly benefit skin health or support the effectiveness of their formulations. They are very much centred around avoiding what they call the ‘suspicious 6’ which they find to be at the root of almost every skin issue which makes their products suitable for all skin types. In case you were wondering, the suspicious 6 are essential oils, drying alcohols, silicones, chemical screens, fragrance/dyes and SLS. Continue reading

Date Night Makeup Look with the Violet Voss Ride or Die Palette

Date Night Makeup Look Violet Voss Ride or Die Palette

Every year my husband and I spend Valentine’s Day having dinner at home (I always make something special for the occasion) and then go out either the night before or the night after. Last night we went out for dinner so I thought I’d share this date night makeup look with you today! For this look I used the Violet Voss Ride or Die Palette with a hint of the Urban Decay Vice 3 Palette. Even better is that these are both palettes that I vowed to use more this winter! So let’s take a closer look at my date night makeup look!

First Beauty Loves

first beauty loves

The Canadian Beauty Bloggers theme of the month for February is First Beauty Loves which is so fitting for such a love-focused month. This theme has encouraged me to look through my makeup collection and remember the products that truly were first loves. Products that helped develop the passion for makeup that I have today. I’ve always worn makeup but it wasn’t until about five years ago that I really got into it. What I mean by that was I started to teach myself more about the products and application techniques and started shopping beyond just picking up staples once a year from the drugstore. So let’s take a look at what products were a big part of starting this makeup journey that I am on! Continue reading

Grey Ombre Manicure

grey ombre manicure

It’s been a long time since I’ve featured a manicure on the blog! I think the last one I posted was way back in June!! This one is actually from a few weeks ago as I got sick around the time I had planned on posting it. This grey ombre manicure was inspired by a manicure I saw on Pinterest years ago and have recreated multiple times since. This time I added the chevron accent nail to add a little something extra. I love the way a chevron accent looks on the nails! It’s such a cute way to add a little something-something. Continue reading

Jouer Lip Crème Review

Jouer Lip Crème Blush

I purchased the Jouer Lip Crème in the shade blush back in December and I feel like I’ve used it enough now to form an opinion on it. I mainly purchased it so that I could pair it with one of Jouer’s Lip Toppers but I have worn this on it’s own quite a few times now. The Jouer Lip Crème promises to be lightweight and keep your lips feeling conditioned with it’s vitamin E infused formula.

First off, I have to say I’m a bit put off by the odd shape of this product. I normally love square products. As a beauty blogger I love any product that doesn’t try to roll away while being photographed, however these have a strange indent that I can’t figure out what the use of it is. It almost looks like the lipsticks could click together?

Jouer Lip Crème Blush

The formula is very moussey and reminds me of the Tarte Lip Paints. They have a delicious vanilla smell that just feels nostalgic to me for some reason. I find the applicator to be quite standard so I haven’t had any issues using it.

Jouer Lip Crème Blush Wear Test

1. Freshly applied @ 8 AM; 2. 12 PM Pre-lunch; 3. 12:30 Post-lunch (ate an oily salad); 4. 5 PM Final check-in before taking it off

Now as for how it wore on the lips… it definitely settles into the lip lines but looks passable when first applied. With time it seems to settle even more dramatically into the lip lines and flakes off throughout the day. I looked in the mirror after wearing it all morning and was a bit shocked by how awful my lips looked up close. I discovered lip lines that I didn’t even know I had! It’s a shame because I really like the colour. I’d probably still wear it for short outings since it does initially look good and takes some time to start settling, but I don’t think I’d wear it for any extended periods of time.

Overall… I would not purchase another Jouer Lip Crème. I’m so disappointed, I was so excited when I saw Sephora was carrying Jouer! But they can’t all be winners.

What was the last disappointing product that you tried? Let me know in the comments below!

xoxo,

Robyn

January Favourites: Makeup, Skincare & More!

January Favourites

I usually talk about how ‘fast’ a month goes by but was it just me or did January seem particularly long this year? It could have been due to the major cold snap we had for the last couple of weeks at the month that really made it feel long. If I don’t have to see -40 with the windchill on the weather network again for the rest of the winter I’ll be a happy girl! January however was a great month – it was a month of setting goals and working on achieving them. Though I didn’t get as much blogging done as I would have liked to, I did spend the month working on some other goals of mine. Continue reading

#TBT: Recreating Urban Decay Vice 3 Makeup Look

TBT Urban Decay Vice 3

The Canadian Beauty Blogger ‘Shop Your Stash’ Theme of the month got me digging through my makeup drawers, remembering old content from my early blogging days and really got my creative juices flowing. When I picked up my Urban Decay Vice 3 Palette and decided to give this neglected palette more use this winter I immediately thought of a makeup look I featured in my first year of blogging. I feel like my blogging and makeup skills have both grown since then so I thought I’d take a stab at recreating it. Continue reading

Five Neglected Palettes: Winter Edition

Neglected Palettes Winter

I had a lot of fun posting about my five neglected palettes that I was going to use more during the fall. That post was inspired by Chelle of Makeup Your Mind and her YouTube Video on the subject. I ended up doing a few makeup looks for the blog using my fall selections so I thought I’d pick five new ones to focus on for winter. I by no means exclusively used these palettes during the fall but  I did make a point to reach for them more often. So let’s take a look at what I’m going to make a better effort to use this winter! It’s a perfect time to revisit old favourites that have become neglected as this month’s theme for the Canadian Beauty Bloggers is Shop Your Stash! Continue reading
