YSL Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick

YSL Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick

Last spring I won a YSL Beauty Box Giveaway hosted by beauty editor, Dave Lackie. In this prize was a YSL Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick, a formula I hadn’t tried before but obviously was excited to test out. Somehow it took me this long to do a proper test but I’m ready to share my thoughts on this product with you today. I received shade #201, Orange Imagine which is a beautiful matte orange red shade.

The gold packaging of this lipstick feels very luxe and has a bit of weight to it. The square shape of the tube, while not completely unique, does make it stand out a bit more in my collection of mostly classic round tubes. YSL Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick has a faint scent to it, I want to say it might be roses? The scent doesn’t last on the lips so you don’t have to worry about that if you are sensitive to scented products. Continue reading

Winter Skincare

Winter Skincare

With each season the needs of our skin can change depending on the weather. Though I have oily skin all year round, I do find that my face needs a bit more hydration during the winter months. I generally have to find a balance as despite having a few dry patches my skin still looks like an oily mess at the end of the day. Since I do always use mattifying makeup products to combat the excessive oil, I find this allows me to add some moisturizing products to my routine for the winter.

I do still continue to use the Olay Complete All Day Moisturizer for Oily/Combination Skin, but at least a few times a week I use the Garnier Moisture Bomb Antioxidant Moisturizer* (pictured above in the pump-style bottle). If I use it too often I do end up reeeeeeally oily, but I find it helps keep the dry patches away. I tend to use it on days where I’m chilling at home and not really wearing any makeup. Gummiband Hair Cords Review

Gummiband

Wearing my hair in a ponytail is a weekly staple for me my work week. However with that said, I often worry about the breakage that I am causing to my hair with using traditional hair elastics on such a frequent basis. I have to admit that I was already quite intrigued by this cord style of hair tie that I had seen all over social media lately so I jumped at the opportunity to receive a package from Gummiband to review.

Gummiband is a Canadian company that creates these amazing and affordable hair cords. They are also 100% female owned and operated. Not only that but they also are an active part of their community. They have helped finance six small business start-ups for women in developing countries and have also mentored female high school students, just to name a few of the awesome things they do!

The product itself is hypoallergenic, gentle on your hair, reusable and suitable for all hair types. They also do not absorb moisture so they don’t breed bacteria which makes them ideal for use at the pool or at the gym! Continue reading

Best of 2017: The Game Changers

Best of 2017

I always find end of year favourites to be such a challenge. With so many products to choose from it’s hard to come up with a concise list that doesn’t miss anything. In keeping with how I did my best of 2016 post, I’m going to stick to what I considered to be game changers. These are products that I tried for the first time this year and loved enough to consider them “game changing”. Continue reading

Benefit Cosmetics Benefaves Vox Box

BeneFaves Vox Box

Benefits Cosmetics is a brand that is no stranger so my vanity, but I have to say I was pretty excited when I found out that I would be receiving a Benefit Cosmetic’s Vox Box from Influenster complimentary for review. Appropriately titled the BeneFaves Vox Box, this box contains four of their most loved products. Two were new to me and two were not, but none of them have previously been reviewed here so today I’ve got four mini reviews for you. Are they all really BeneFaves? Keep reading to find out!

Ka-Brow!

Benefit Ka-Brow

As an avid user of the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow, I was excited to receive Benefit’s Ka-Brow! to try as I had heard some positive things about it. It’s a cream brow product with an interesting twist… it comes with a brush inside the lid! It’s pigmented, easy to apply and the included brush make this a win for me! A little bit goes a long way and I find that my brows look the same at night as they did when freshly applied. I actually think I might like this better than Dipbrow! Continue reading

Lipstick on the Lake is on Vacation

Christmas

Wow December has been a busy month and has been zooming right by. As of today, the blog will be on a bit of a break as I’m away on holidays for the next two weeks. I had planned to pre-write a bunch of content but there just hasn’t seemed to be any time between preparing for Christmas and preparing to be away. I do have lots of great ideas and am excited to get back to writing them in the new year! It seems so strange for this to be my last post of 2017…

I just wanted to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year! Thank you all for your support this last year, I truly do appreciate all of you and really enjoy writing each post. I really wish I would have had more time so that I wouldn’t have had to take this hiatus.

I will probably be posting quite a bit on my Instagram page as that is easier to update while I’m away so be sure to keep an eye on that as I’ll be posting photos of my adventures!

I hope you all enjoy a safe and joyous holiday season!

xoxo,

Robyn

Fenty Beauty Stunna Lip Paint

Fenty Beauty Stunna Lip Paint Uncensored

‘Tis the season for red lips and I have to say, I was pretty excited to try out the Fenty Beauty Stunna Lip Paint in the shade Uncensored for the occasion. It is a liquid lipstick that promises weightless longevity that “stays kissably smooth”. It is also said to be a universal red that looks good on everyone. So, in my usual Love for Lipstick style, I’ve not only done a review for you, but I have also done my usual wear test photos so you can see for yourself if it keeps up with it’s claims.

The packaging is very unique for a liquid lipstick and has a definite luxurious quality to it. The applicator has a unique curvature to it and was very easy to use to get a precise application of this highly pigmented formula. Continue reading

Holiday Makeup: Simple Yet Festive

I feel like I’m way behind on my usual holiday makeup looks for the Christmas season but the time has just been flying by. With how accelerated time feels this may end up being my only holiday look for this season, but we’ll see! I’m trying to cram in as much as I can before going out of town this weekend between trying to see all my loved ones and getting ready to go. This holiday look isn’t anything dramatic or bold, but is a look that is easy to pull together. I’ve done a gold/neutral eye paired with a merlot red lipstick. I think this is a stunning combination! For my eye makeup I’ve busted out my tried and true Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette.

Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Liquified Lipstick

Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Liquified Lipstick Puree

It is no secret that I love liquid lipsticks so when I saw that Bite Beauty came out with their own version, I was definitely intrigued. I did see several reviews of the product so coming into this, I knew it wasn’t the matte liquid lipstick that I am used to. Instead, the Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Liquified Lipsticks are more similar to the Too Faced Melted Lipsticks. Essentially, a cream lipstick in liquid form. I chose the shade Purée which is a beautiful burnt orange shade.

To start off, the square packaging is quite attractive. It is not only flat-lay friendly (#bloggerproblems) it really stands out from your standard tube. I also quite enjoy the long and tapered doe-foot applicator, it was really quite easy to get an even and precise distribution of the product. Continue reading
